Thank you for, finally, real accurate fishing line tests ! I think that a parameter you could evaluate with a rating is the difference between declared diameter and real diameter of the wire, this would demonstrate the true quality of a braided (thin and resistant). I don’t know if exists a mathematical formula like: (lbs measured- lbs declared)/(real diameter - declared diameter). Thanks for your job again!

That's seems like the basis of a formula that would demonstrate how accurate the line is rated, irrelevant if it's actual performance. That in itself isn't a bad idea, I will look into that.

@@thelinelaboratory I'm telling you this because in Italy we usually use braided lines for fishing from the shore and cast as far as possible (in many spots it is important to throw very far the lure to reach the fish). For this reason, many times when choosing the braid, the cosumator looks at the diameter indicated by the manufacturer and the breaking load. In the case of your test I would feel cheated by the seller, as I would have expected a diameter of the braided 0.23 (or similar) and instead I find a real 0.376

Essa linha é uma das principais escolhas dos brasileiros no Aliexpress . Eu tenho cerca de 1km dessa mesma linha. A bitola descrita, 0,23, é indicada para todo tipo de pescaria no Brasil. A 0,23 é sempre a primeira linha dos pescadores brasileiros. No mais, parabéns pelo canal e pela criteriosa análise!

Parece-me que é precisamente nesse parâmetro que a realidade mais se desvia do anunciado pela marca, e muito pela negativa. De facto adquiri esta mesma linha e notei imediatamente que o diâmetro anunciado seria nem superior ao real. Para mim é um ponto muito negativo uma.vez que reduz imenso a distância de lançamento quando usadas amostras leves, tamanho desvio da realidade fez-me arrumar a bobine de 300m na gaveta. O que vale é que é material barato e desse modo o "prejuízo" não é tão impactante. Boas jornadas.

Bom dia amigo.. Uso essa linha mas não considero a 0,23mm para todos os peixes apesar do vídeo indicar um diâmetro maior. Para tucunare azul na faixa de 60 up uso 45 lbs. Tucunare acu 50 lbs. Nunca tive problemas

Almost all lines are underestimated diameter and funnily enough the old school lines also underestimate the breaking strain which seems counterintuitive ​@@fernandopereira598

Mis felicitaciones por su canal y las experiencias que nos aporta. No tengo el Manster de 33 lbs pero si he usado durante 1 año el MANSTER W8 II de 22 lbs / 10 kg / 0,16 mm / Hi Vis Yellow . Voy a obviar el diámetro del trenzado, no tengo con que medirlo, pero si puedo medir la capacidad de rotura a tracción y después de hacer 6 mediciones, todas las roturas se produjeron entre los 3,918 y los 5,875 kg. El fabricante indica capacidad de rotura de 10 kg. Positivo es que ninguna rotura se produjo por el nudo, siempre en la línea Sin comentarios.

To be honest I always like a braid knot strength to be near to the rating, at the end of the day you will always have a knot in the braid of some sort. That’s a very good braid in my eyes

this is my go to braid! Superb quality and it is VERY AFFORABLE! Smooth and good weaving, i also did my own testing with the 17lbs Manster w8 without knot its breaking at around 17-19lbs and with an FG knot its break at around 16-18lbs! As always thank you for the amazing content!

@@IdontcareJnoJon Why compare it to Varivas,YGK these brand cost a fortune😅 Seaknight is quite good for a 5-6$ braid. If you compare it with the other chinese brand, Seaknight is one of the best cheap braids you can buy! so yeah for me this is a superb quality for the price/performance.

@@IdontcareJnoJonI use the 17lbs Manster W8 the diameter is not bad i can spool 300meters on my Stradic 3000 FM and the braid is quite smooth compared to Kastking,ashconfish etc. If youre really picky when it comes to braid just buy the TOP brands. Youre expecting this to rival Varivas,YGK,Ocea etc.. You have to look at the MASSIVE price diff😅

Thanks for your work! I was confused because I could only spool roughly 120m of 0.15mm braided line on my spool, despite the fact that the lettering on the spool promised 360m (calculated on nylon). Could this be because the line is considerably thicker than expected, and I'm probably spooling a line with 0.20-0.25mm average?

I was comparing this braid to the Jbraid x4 20lb you have tested. From the video it looks as if the Manster W8 33lb has a better abrsison reisistance vs maximum breaking strain of 38% (actual 13lb) But the Manster W8's max breaking strain of 35lb is only just over the advertised rating (33lb) where as the Jbraid x4 20lb has a max breaking strain of over 200% of the advertised rating at almost 46lb. Because you are comparing the abrasion breaking point to the maximum breaking of 46lb instead of the adverised rated 20lbs it makes the Jbraid x4 look worse with a lower percentage than the W8. The actual numbers show the Jbraid x4 break in the abrasion test at 15lb, 2lb higher but appears lower in the abrasion ranking due to how you calculate the percentage. This make lower quality lines appear to have superior abrasion resistance when they dont. The Jbraid x4 20lb is thinner, has a a higher max breaking strain and a higher average abrasion breaking point but is ranked overall much lower.

Any time you compare any measured value such as breaking force to a "made up" number like the rated strength, then the result is pretty much useless. All you are doing is making a comparison to how accurate the marketing department is. For example, i could produce a 100lb line and put a 5lb label on it. I then measure the breaking force of that line under various conditions and it will result in (for example) a number of lets say 500%. That means nothing which is why we never make any caculations that impact the final score against that number. There are lots of ways to slice and dice the numbers and most of the relevant stats are on the web site so if you would like to rank them differently feel free to do so, all the numbers are there for you.

@thelinelaboratory Thank you for the reply, I understand this better now. I think under the summary stats on the website maybe abrasion breaking point Vs diameter would be useful as a measure. Dividing abrasion breaking point say 12lb by the diameter e.g 0.25 would give a score of 48. The higher the score the more abrasion resistant the line is and makes it easier to compare lines with different diameters. I notice on the website if you bring up the data for the braids separately there is a measure for Abrasion Strength PSI which I think is the same thing. It would be very useful to have this viewable in the summary section as it's a key measure. Abrasion break Vs Max break strength I don't feel is completely fair or comparable due to reasons I have discussed. Thank you for your website and continued testing, it's brilliant. Is there an easy way to.conpare the Abrasion strength PSI for all braids tested? I downloaded the excel data but it's not included.

@BYF1 yes abrasion tensile strength is what your talking about, that takes into account cross sectional area and strength, just like the tensile strength number I show for max break. I can put that metric back on the site if it isnt there.

@@thelinelaboratory Thanks for confirming, having Abrasion Strength PSi in the summary would be great and in my opinion is a better real world measure of abrasion resistance rather than Abrasion break Vs Max break strength. By the later metric your No1 ranked braid is a 17lb rated braid that breaks at 11lbs, with an abrasion break of 6lbs. Going by my score of Abrasion break point (lbs) divided by Avg measured diameter (mm) the No1 rank line is Suffix 832 50lb. I know which braid I would choose to fish with.

Another excellent test. Although very informative to see the test, the final decision which one to buy still isn't easy. Good performance /price ratio is also to be considered. And in performance knot resistance / abrasion / tensile strength have to be balanced. Also thickness if you consider the line capacity of your spool. The understated line diameter is something that really bothers me as it is actually false advertising and decreases your casting distance considerably. And you also may have to trow away several meters of to much line you actually paid for

Diameter vs strength is what tensile strength is, so ignore what's on the box and use that value to determine the characteristics of the line.

The creator is Australian, oddly in Australia all brands advertise diameter in metric but nearly all fishing lines are quoted in lbs which is very strange as most of our rods are marketed as having line ratings in kg! Doesn't make sense. Daiwa J braid is quoted in lbs yet Daiwa's rods line ratings are in kg. Strange! Fortunately the PE system is taking over more and more.

With all due respect to them, it's not terrible. It has performed better than a lot of braids at significantly higher price points and it is exceptionally round. Not a bad deal for the cost I think as long as you know what to expect.

@@thelinelaboratory On the price I agree, but the diameter is huge, which means it's really low quality fiber, and the lure action/casting distance are impaired.. I doubt it has perferomed better than any other braid if you compare diameter to diameter.

@IdontcareJnoJon you have just described tensile strength which is calculated for every line and shown in the video. on that stat alone this line wasn't great, but when combined with other factors it didn't rank too bad.

Ho caricato 240m di questo ( esattamente 33lb) su un baitcaster che ne contiene 190 di monofilo da 0,36.... Qualcosa non quadra. 😅 Non può essere 0,37, al di là del fatto che sia sicuramente più che 0,23, sottostimato quindi, come la stragrande maggioranza dei prodotti in commercio, come vediamo in questo stupendo canale YT. Al tatto sembra praticamente pari spessore del Kairiki 0,23 che pure ho e non comprerò mai più (che schifezza!) a differenza del Manster W8 II . Setoso, scorrevolissimo, non carica d'acqua la bobina, prestazioni indiscutibili... Perché dovrei spendere 6 volte di più?
