Nice doormat! Glad you made it back safe, weather rolls in quick sometimes. I've fished that area a couple times, weather can get nasty there and the tide rolls through quick.

On the kayak I usually use a shorter 6ft rod like an ugly tiger stick with a 6000 reel 50lb braid and 60-80lb mono leader and 6/0 minimum circle hook
