When I got back into fishing in the 1980s, I spent less than £50 on tackle. On that kit I caught numerous roach, chub, perch (including some big ones), and bream. These days I have some really nice gear for all kinds of fishing, but you really don't need to spend a fortune to enjoy the sport.

I've learnt over the years since that technology has moved on so much, you don't need £300 rods £50 rods are more than adequate.
