I always thought that it was rather inconsistent to use this guy because I did on the wrong way (straight rod, straight slow retrieve with some pulls). Now I just tried out your method for the first time on emerald lake and a trophy chain pike just inhaled the walker. Noice

The rod has to be at an angle because in real life the design of the popper has the tail end sink into the water while the head points up into the air so that when you jerk it, the head gets pulled down into the water and pushes the water away. If you don't jerk the rod at an angle, it will just pull the popper upwards instead of down and there won't be a pop. If you have the rod low and at an angle, it will pull the popper down and work properly. The developers seemed to have trouble getting this right, as you can still pop while the rod is straight up.

Ok man. The lure is called, in RL, the Zara Spook. The technique is called walking the dog. It makes the lure move back and forth. Look up Zara Spook fishing. Used them my whole life. The other lure is called a pop-r.
