Hello and welcome back to a new video. So my intentions were to not do a video in this session, but it turned out to be pretty decent, and very enjoyable!
I headed down to Portsmouth harbour to try my hand at some squid fishing, it started well with a small cuttle fish coming to the pink yamashita style jig! After the cuttle fish, I didn’t have any more luck for a hour or so, so I thought I’d give it a go with a bit of the fresh cuttle on my small 4ft kayak rod to see if we could bag anything. Within half hour of the rod being in the water I had a few bites, lifted up the rod, and started to reel in. At this point I thought I had missed the bite, only until my line got to the jetty and the fish started making a b line underneath! Fortunately for me I managed to control the fish and get it out, which ended up being a pretty decent bass, around the 3.5lb I reckon. I was unsure on the rules for keeping bass in the harbour at the time so I decided to chuck the lovely fish back to fight another day!
After another couple of casts with the bait and only 1 other small bite, I chucked the jig back out around high tide, within 5 mins or so I had a lovely sized squid on the jetty. We then had the pleasure of seeing the HMS Queen Elizabeth come back into the harbour, and what a site it was indeed!
There were no other squid to be had after this, so I packed up and went home.
Hope you all enjoy this video
Tight lines until the next one! 🎣🎣
