SIMPLE AND EASY SQUID FISHING - Catching squid can be great fun, and it helps stock up the bait freezer! Or a great catch and cook! Nothing better than fresh squid. This is my method for fishing for squid, the rig I use and how best to fish it. Squid fishing can be great fun for all the family.

basa364 - No worries mate. It’s funny isn’t it. I always thought it was old school - but then again a lot of my fishing is old school. Dead simple and really effective. I used to make up my 2 hook flappers that way for fishing for dabs and flounders in my youth. Like I say you can make them out of heavier mono so they really stand off well. And even have a lighter hooklength looped on at the end.

Matt Webster - I’m not sure about them in your area but I would imagine the best place to find out would be the local fish market. The twisted blood loops are good for keeping down on the tangles. The heavier the mono the more they “stand off”. I plan to do more wrecking vids when the weather/work allows. Wrecking at anchor or wreck on the drift?

you can catch squid at any part of the day and all days of the year. Find leveled seabed, big concentration of small non-pelagic fish or attract the small fish, and squids will be/come there. They dont like warm sea, so in winter you can catch them in shallows and in summer you can catch them in depth. Atleast thats here in croatia. But since there is always cold, you can catch squids under 40m thruout whole year, i suposse

Is wool ever used to fish for cephalopods? Eel anglers used to use lengths of wool instead of, or in combination with hooks. I'm wondering if short lengths of wool, tied the the lure, would be effective?
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 5 жыл бұрын
Brian Sharp - It’s my understanding that the olden day anglers fishing for eels used to thread big lobworms onto the wool. And fish it in a bundle so when the eel bit into the worms it’s teeth cost fouled up in the wool fibre. Not sure if it would be string enough for a squid. Worth an experiment anyway. 👍🏻🦑

How do you know they are there to start off with? I wouldn't just use a squid lure on the off chance...

Mat White - Some folks do just try them out anywhere any time. The places I fish for squid - where I know there are squid; are because I’ve either caught them on feathers, or had them attack livebaits in those areas. 😉🎣

- I'm not sure if I have mentioned it in this video but I have definitely shown it in others. I put some fish flash on the back of the lure. Works great for octopus and cuttlefish. Here is a vid showing it.- kzbin.info/www/bejne/nomXnYOjaciAba8

Hi John , have you ever caught other species on a Squid Jig ? ie Pollock cod etc ?
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 5 жыл бұрын
bryn mitchell - I’ve had mackerel and whiting on them but that’s because they were suicidal and practically swallowed the whole jig.haha. The spikes aren’t much good for hooking fish. You can rig a stinger hook if you want?

Bigger sea robin and bigger weever here in croatia/southern europe. Mostly on 5-7 cm shrimp style squid jig or tataki jig. But it is rare, maybe one in 20 trips, and only on sand terrain ofc.
