Here is show how I service my Daiwa Sl30sh multiplier reel. Most multiplier reels are very similar, so this basic method can be adapted to service many other makes and models. I hope this helps.

Very nice demo of how it should be done and a great video for young starting angling. Look after your tools (in any trade) and they will look after you, as they say. It's amazing though, just how many designs of the same style of reels there are. The drag on that reel is completely different from an abu 7000. In the abu, there are 4 rollers which are interchangeable with different diameters which can be adjusted for casting, Then there is one single gnarled nut on the side which when tightened, gives the spool speed. By compressing the axle of the spool. On these reels , it is necessary to put oil ONTO the small metal friction plates at the ends. The compression is what slows the spool speed for casting ( not drag ) and is numbered for easier settings once you have dialled in your initial setting. Of course, the downside to this design is that the wear on the spool spindle is worn quicker than some because the ends ( which start off conical shaped ) become flattened against the small metal friction plate.and become really unusable for casting. So after a few years, maybe less, if not oiled, the wear on your spool will be terminal and a new one will be needed. The life of the spool can be extended by oiling correctly on the ABU 7000 and on all reels come to that. They are all different, with clever designs, but none of that matters if they are neglected.Far easier to simply throw your money away and start a scrap business for dead fishing reels. I've had my ABU 7000 for about 50ish years and still use it. It's like an old friend and old friends should be looked after and treasured.This video was far better than you might think to a young angler who really wants to get into the sport..It might encourage a greater depth of understanding of their future treasured reels. Tight Lines to all and have a very happy time with your reels. Regards.

Why go to all that bother and do nothing with the bearings? They should be cleaned and oiled not washed out in a bowl of warm soapy water. Also drag washers need a bit grease to waterproof them!

Is it normal for them to have brakes in?? I brought one brand new there's none in it. Yet the one I bought second hand off ebay has some 😆 which iv removed.

You should ideally be lubricating your drag washers with a Reel Drag Grease. This stops the drag washers sticking together, which reduces the performance of your drags. Just a thought you should consider when doing your reel services

- Great tip. I have never actually seen that before?

Excellent clear video John. The sound was breaking up a bit for me, but it may be that my Bluetooth headphones need another charge! I'm assuming you are going to do a similar one for us Coffee grinder (F/S) users! Can I ask where you got that SIlicone grease? I ordered some last year, but if you tip the tube up, it runs out like water! Thanks for the updates - regards to you & the family - stay safe. stay well.

Trampster - I will eventually do a fixed spool one but by the time I’d done the multi the light wasn’t good enough to make a video. I acquired the grease from a local tradesman. Who may or may not have been in charge of inventory at his work. 🤔

If yoou find the friction pads contaminated with oil etc, what's the best thing / way to flush and clean them? Got an Abu 6500c from way back in 1994* to sort out.... *The receipt was still in the box! 🙈
@thefishlockerworkshop4 жыл бұрын
Chris Davison - You can get as much out as you can with kitchen towel etc but ideally a degreaser/electrical cleaner. Nothing too harsh though or you’ll damage the washer. 😉

Hi John,, the molycote grease you were using, which one is it??? there are several types on there web site
@thefishlockerworkshop4 жыл бұрын
Mark Jarvis - Just a standard silicone or lithium grease will do you mate. If you really want to do the job properly you can buy “reel grease” from the likes of Penn. But the grease isn’t to lubricate it’s to protect. 😉
@markjarvis76374 жыл бұрын
@@thefishlockerworkshop Cheers John, thought your grease was a better type, i do use Penn grease and their Rod cleaner, thats very good for sealing both rods and reels

Check that the line is completely on the spool otherwise it will get stuck between the frame and the spool and wont come out.

Hello John, my Slosh 30 has recently started to slip drag when winding in. It does not matter whether I tighten it fully (drag) or loosen it sometimes barely pulls a 5 oz lead in when reeling back. It never used to do this and the drag has always been good. Could you help me please with any of your excellent experience 🙏. Thank you in advance. Mark
@frankofstad4558 Жыл бұрын
Late reply, but might be useful for the next guy, its most likely not your drag that slips, but rather the braid on the spool, putt on a few meters of mono backing to stop the braid slipping.
