Fishing Sunrise to Sunset on the Northumberland coast

Over the Christmas break, I set off up to Northumberland in search of Cod. Having watched the weather forecast like a hawk for weeks, it was hit and miss whether it would be fishable or not. Regardless, I set off up North and arrived around 10am, where 70mph winds were battering the coast.
This video is day 2 of that trip. Today we started off on a rock mark known as the doctors house, however the swells proved to be too much and we were struggling to retrieve our gear. We decided after an hour to move half a mile further up the coast to a mark known as Cullernose point, a mark where we could setup above the swells and the moved paid off producing plenty of fish from the get go. The plan was always to move to a different mark for the evening high tide, maybe we should have stayed put, who knows that's the thing with sea fishing. But we decided to stick to the plan and move marks. Our intended mark looked a bit sketchy when we arrived. As this was my last session of the trip, and unsure if we were going to get washed off or not, we chose to fish instead on Lynemouth beach. Fishing was slow until darkness fell and the tide turned, then the Cod came on the feed.

@@theawfulangler Quite close to my secret mark there, Alex. Called Meteor Hill, has produced cod between 10lb-20lb since 2015. Remember if you can, hit the summer cod and pollock at Eyemouth and st.abbs.

Looked a worthwhile trip up North and good choice in changing Marks from a safety point of view. No fish is worth risking it (Despite the nice one caught by Tommy Joe from it😂) Weed looked horrendous and can see why you'd need rotten bottom in the kelp beds. Question: Imax or Vass smock jacket better?

Yeah it was a great couple of days. I'll definitely be going back up that way, stunning scenery and good fishing. What's not to love? Vass by a country mile. Don't get me wrong, the imax is warm, but the quality is shocking. Vass is worn by trawlermen, that says it all really.

Had the week in Northumbria/borders in Aug last year. Everywhere looked really fishy and I took the rods, but a real lack of Tackle/bait shops over the border where we were staying meant I didn't actually go out. Lots of Mackeral were being caught off the breakwater at Berwick as well as headlands around Eyemouth. Need to get back up again with some decent bait in the Coolbox I think.

Cart wings, Paul. They're the insides of edible crabs. Great bait through winter when you can get hold of them.
