Starting to wonder if you and the Duke are joined at the hip. But then, there are far worse people to be joined to. One of my lads bought himself a shakespear rod a few years ago. His first self bought rod. He still uses it most times we get on the bank. Great to see humble tackle getting used by household names. Thanks Matt. It puts confidence in people like me. Keep it up Matt, but be safe out there my friend, your followers think the world of you, and really don't want to see you getting ill. Take care.

Great fishing . can you use carp care kits on pike ?. thanks Matt and the Duke woody
@MattHayesfish4 жыл бұрын
Yes, no problem. Carp rods can be a tad stiff though and often tear the hooks through softer skinned baits. The rod in the film is not expensive but it has the right sort of action. Carp rods in the cheaper range would probably serve well because they are generally softer and more 'through' than top end carp rods.

Great stuff! What knot did mick say he used for the stop knot?
@MattHayesfish4 жыл бұрын
He uses power gum. You can also use pole elastic.

Matt I’m 14 now but when I was 6 I caught a 10lb pike and when I tried to take out the hook he nicked my thumb badly I have moved since and have stuck to trout and salmon but thinking of getting in pike and coarse fishing and I’m wondering how to take out the hook properly if it’s deep in a pikes throat.keep up the brilliant podcasts

Any advice on when to hit a bite? I've tried hitting them instantly and I've tried waiting between 5 and 30 seconds, whatever I do I just seem to be striking into thin air.
@MattHayesfish4 жыл бұрын
I usually wait a few seconds, wind down and almost point the rod at the pike. Keep winding until the line comes tight and then strike through the shoulder. The biggest failing among pike fishers is simply tapping the rod slightly when they strike. Its a habit form carp fishing which is a self-hooking thing. Wind the hooks into the pike and then set them with a firm pull right through the shoulder. Phew!
