Fishing The Most Famous Spot In The Florida Keys! Blackfin Tuna (Catch/Clean/Cook)

In this episode we take the Shallow Sport X3 offshore fishing in the Islamorada. After catching live bait we head to the most famous fishing spot in the Florida Keys! The HUMPS! We catch a bunch of Blackfin Tuna and then get into a pile of mahi! Back at home we fillet the fish and then take the fresh tuna to Sushi Sake. They don't offer "catch your cook" to the public but they did us a favor and made a bunch of sushi for us! Check them out for a great meal next time you're in Islamorada!

Sorry about your "Battle Wound", but I'd say it seems like it was well worth it for the great times, and wonderful memories you made with your beautiful family. I see so much of your in Claire, it's adorable. I miss those days, as my kids are all grown and moved out now, but my son just had his first son, so I'm looking forward to making some new great memories. And the Madison's are a great time to watch as they get more and more into the sport and better at it. Maybe someday, one or both of them can run their own charters as well. I wish I could make you an offer on your Freeman, they really seem like such great boats. It's just a little out of my league and being that I'm in the PNW, it's just not the ideal boat for going offshore in these Pacific waters. It seems everyone has closed cabin, metal hull boats. Best time to come down for Bud n Mary’s lounging and fishing for someone quite bit older?

The weather is always unpredictable, but if wanting to go on the offshore boats late fall through the spring the majority of the boats fish the reef and wrecks (4-8 miles from shore), and if wanting to go further offshore for mahi and Blackfin tuna anytime late spring through the early fall they head further out (10-30 miles). There is always a little crossover to, based on conditions. The summer and early fall months are calmer than the other months on average, but not always. I don’t do much backcountry (inshore fishing), but that is extremely popular here too. Whether targeting tarpon, snook, redfish, snapper, etc. A lot more catch and release back there, although the snapper are always good eating

Thanks Mike! Hi Vis lines are great for us to see but for certain species of fish we don’t use it unless you have a long leader. Fish Like yellowtail snapper or Blackfin tuna can be pretty smart.

There’s over 40 private charter boats at Bud n Mary’s Marina. We have our 42’ Freeman “Broad Minded” available for charter for up to 6 people. But if you call the marina office at 305-664-2461 they can find both an offshore and inshore boat for you. Depending how many people are in your group you may be able to get a smaller offshore boat, or if you want a cabin with ac and a bathroom there’s options for that too
