The North Saskatchewan river is listed as the 12th longest river in Canada flowing some 1,287 kilometers where, after connecting with the South Saskatchewan river, it eventually flows into Lake Winnipeg.
It is also home to a multitude of fish species, with roughly a dozen different species that can be caught within the Edmonton city limits.
Depending on whom you ask one of the most coveted and perhaps most challenging fish to have at the end of your fishing rod is the Lake Sturgeon.
I joined Dr. Todd Zimmerling President and CEO of the Alberta Conservation Association and Nick Porayko of Lunkers Fishing Adventures for a day out on this remarkable river.

Isn't that river full of the cities waste? I live in Edmonton and would like to start fishing there but it seems really dirty

K B It's not really dirty at all, there's just a bunch of suspended sediment at times. I frequently fish the river within city limits, and it never fails to produce for me. Only thing I'd be cautious of is the mercury in the fish, but if you only eat one a week it should be fine. The city's website has more information about it. Good luck!

K B I live in strathcona county right outside of Sherwood park and I fish the north Saskatchewan river all the time it's actually not that dirty of a river besides its bad wrap it's mostly just sediment from up river that makes it look dirty if you go far enough up the river it's glacier fed and crystal clear
