Fishing the Southport Pier July

Southport is an amazing little town. It is rich in history, has amazing shopping, and plenty of great places to eat. There have also been a good number of movies and TV shows filmed here. But best of all, the waterfront at Southport is a great place to fish! In this video we will wet a line on the Southport pier and see exactly what's biting. we will also take a short ride on the Southport Fun Tour to learn a little more about the town. finally, we will wrap it all together with a fish taco recipe!

The older gentleman on the right at 6minutes is my 82 almost 83yr old Grandpa, Harvey Suerken. He and my Grandma say pufferfish are delicious and I wasn't surprised he took them when offered. He has been on the cover of fisherman's post for a flounder he caught on that pier and has made the brunswick beacon for a shark. He also grew up on the jersey shore and Philadelphia. A few weeks after this video was posted my Grandfather was admitted to the hospital and was told he wasn't going to make it. But he did. And the reason we found your video was because my cousins husband found your video looking to see what people use for bait and what they're catching. We finally got my Grandfather out fishing last week for the first time in a year. So if you ever walk down and see the grumpy old men fishing bench and he isn't there just send some positive vibes that he will get back out there again 🎣 also add mango to that salsa next time 😉

I’m an OKI local and was browsing for surf fishing videos in Oak Island and came across this video since I started fishing at the SPT pier recently and ahaha I recognize the first girl at Angie’s Produce.

I went to eat at the restaurant next to the peir, haven't fished it yet all my gear is light tackle right now but I might try, anyway I saw about 3 sharks caught in about 45 minutes off that peir, been wanting to go back since its great to see what else there is!

Yes sir that is a good place to fish at. I was at the beach the 8th-12th, and fished at southport twice and caught a couple croakers and black bass, and at low tide I went on the bank I was using Berkley gulp shrimp and no joke not even 5 minutes caught a 14'' flounder. Went out on a boat to one morning near Bald Head and did real good on the red drum, I love it.

Puffers are delicious. There's a thumb sized piece or white fine meat in he middle. I make beer batter and fry them.

My family goes there every summer. Early this July a guy caught a four foot shark off the end of the pier during an outgoing tide at 6pm.

Yeah, one of the fisherman there said I should throw it back as bait but I didn’t have the tackle. Next time though :)

What's your experience with worms in black drum?

Ive heard the big black drums can have worms. Most of the fish I catch and keep are in the 16 to 18 inch range. I’ve not had any issues with that size drum and worms.
