Catching brookies in the fall has a special magic to it. I like how you were sneaking up on them, I have caught them before crawling on my belly. All in fun time. Enjoyed the video, thanks!👍👍

A lot of times brook trout move up into small feeder streams or beaver/spring ponds to spawn in the fall. At least in Michigan where I live that’s what happens. So it doesn’t shock me that you found more fish in a small stream. One thing I would certainly recommend is that you get out some maps and look for some spring ponds in the headwaters of some of these creeks. I have some secret spring ponds in Michigan that hold massive amounts of large brookies, and some have large browns too. My guess is that West Virginia is no different, you just have to bushwhack a lot. Good luck out there!

Some of these creeks do have brook trout year round, but you are right. Usually if there are big fish up the tiny tribs then they more than likely moved in! Thanks for watching!

Back when I had extra leisure time, I loved those hard to get to brookie streams in N GA. A great way to spend the day.

So glad I came across your videos. I just moved to the Smokys from the Midwest and have never fished for trout. I watched your walmart vid the other day and decided to go out and grab a set up. Looking forward to learning a ton more!

I give you credit for fishing some of those creeks and some of the spots on those creeks ! Myself, I probably would not cause I'd be spending more time "de-flying" the bushes, trees and myself ! Also, I'd probably be outta flies very quickly from all of them I lost cause of those snags ! The scenery was beautiful and thank you for your dedication !

I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! But you're right... I don't consider days like this a failure but it's worth mentioning that every day I fish I don't catch a hundred fish or even a big fish.

I think it helps to wear a lot of camouflage but you still have to be really sneaky and try no to be seen, but I could be wrong.

I quit fishing for Brook Trout from mid October to January. They usually start to spawn mid October and I don’t want to take a chance with them or their eggs.

Gotta love the native brook trout. We have them where I live in small streams, but I have not fished for them in years. What is your leader set up for these small creeks?
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing 2 жыл бұрын
I'm usually running a 5x leader, it's nothing special because it really doesn't have to be for these little guys.

What rod length, line weight, fly, and tippet length are you using on these small mountain streams?
@jeffprice4611
@jeffprice4611 2 жыл бұрын
I use an old Sage SP 0wt and 5x-7x tippet for small streams myself. Appalachian Brookies are smaller then Northern strain Brooks. Usually catch 1 fish per hole since they are very skittish and others will spook and shut down. If you walk with a heavy foot, they can actually feel you walking over boulders. Flies can be size 12-18.
