Congratulations you Stachebag! That's awesome bro! I watched an old man pull one a little bigger than this out of the Ohio River near here back in the early 2000s (I can't remember if it was a flathead or not) and he grabbed his lower jaw with BOTH hands and pulled him up out of the water and put him into a 55 gallon trash can and his tail was sticking up out. I couldn't do anything because I was absolutely mesmerized. Around here, in this river, we have some seriously huge catfish. I knew a certified diver for the county back in the day and he dove (sp?) under the bridge that's a quarter mile downstream to check the pilings and he said that he saw three catfish on the bottom that were the size of Volkswagen Beetles. Our rivers here are extremely muddy, so the water is ALWAYS brown, and he said that after he saw those fish he would never dive in that river again. He came face to face with those fish. Anyway, I wasn't trying to outshine you or downplay your catch, because it was awesome, I was just sharing a story.

Nice flathead! Helpful hint- poke a small hole through its fish lips then thread a piece of string, rope, braided line...through and make a loop. Then just put your scales hook/clamp into that loop.

You can also take balloons. And fill him up with expandable foam insulation. And then when the installation hardens you can take the balloon off or just leave it on there. That's better. Great Barbers great floats for anything.

I live in OK and we fish a lot of flathead. That was a great catch, brother. And I bet you’re spot on with your weight. We have 500lb weekends on the Port of Catoosa tail water South of the 40 during the spring run, often. With fish regularly in the 70’s. We’re trotline fishing with live bluegill and crappie though, 12-40ft down on 50-80ft ledges. It’s killer fun. We don’t keep anything under 40inches. Even Blues and Channels. So, I guess we’ve never kept a Channel.... Any way, my sons and I love your show. Thanks for making it.

Awesome catch Josh! There's a guy up here in the northeast who primarily fishes salt. Seamoneyfishing is his channel. You remind me of him. He too is an excellent angler but ALWAYS forgets or needs a piece of equipment he left at home. For him its usually (always) pliers. It gets interesting when hes trying to retrieve a jig from the mouth of a shark while on a yak..

You should look into the bait feeding type of reels, like Okuma Barbarian Baitfeeder, Penn Live Liner, or even the Shimano Baitrunner reels. This way you don't need to loosen the drag all the way every time. Okuma actually has 14 models of bait feeder reels.

You should run those shad under a balloon as opposed to a bobber. Wont wear the shad out as much amd he will cover more water for you. Plus you can put a small glow stick in your ballon. I call it the night keister.
