Salted baits are like the secret weapon in my fishing arsenal. They're bait that's been soaked in a salty solution, and they offer a bunch of benefits that can up my fishing game. You guys should try using light tackle for whiting with carolina rigs and your dried shrimp or fresh cut shrimp. Its a more active and super effective way to catch Mojarras, Whiting and many other species both on the east and west coast because you can cover more water by casting out and reeling in slowly. I remember fishing an entrance channel in florida and having a field day with all jumbo whiting every cast with just a carolina and some shrimp. Would definitely recommend it for a video some day. @@HeySkipper Its how we do it in california for surfperch. I was surprised when it worked in florida. Initially we were told by locals to use jigheads and high lows but nothing hit. But when we started using the carolina which is kind of like mixing cutbait and wait fishing and lure fishing together, we were able to find the fish. The type of fish really depends on how big the bait is so our small hooks only got jumbo whiting and big mojarras but nothing like bluefish, redfish, trout, pompano etc. But yes all you do is cast out and reel in slowly to find where theyre at. As soon as you get bites in a certain area you just keep casting and reeling through there and youll probably catch the whole school unless they dont like your bait.

I will order some super salty squid 🐙 at some point but shipping to the isle of man UK is quite expensive but I've made some of my own salted baits ie sandeels n makerel cuz they go nice and tough and they keep usable for ages if you wrap it in the fridge air tight. Anyway great show as Always, I started watching you guys b4 the pandemic so atleast 3 years and Always enjoy the way you show it like teaching a complete beginner every time. ❤

You call them whitings, but they are actually smaller relatives of the redfish and the black drum, the weakfish / umberfish family. I come from Suriname and there a whole group of fish from this family that are better adapted to water with a lot of sediment. Unfortunately the redfish does not come this far south, but there is a related one that we call the 'Bang-Bang' (drum) and the 'Kandra-tiki' that is very similar to the Trouth. This time when I am back in my country I will try fishing with salted shrimp for these species. Live or fresh shrimp are more difficult to obtain and salted works almost as well.

Wouldnt recommend eating it raw. The only fish I would eat raw is Tuna and farm raised salmon. Unless you have a commercial freezer and can quickly get to those low temps to kill parasites its risky.

I’ve been using salted bait since I was a kid in Mozambique, before 1970. In my fridge I always have it ready to go. DO NOT FREEZE IT after salted.

If you use chicken intestines, make sure you cut them open longways so salt gets in it. If you don’t, it will rot.
