Fishing Wilson Lake in Alabama! Giant Southern Smallmouth!

That looks like such a different experience then what I am used to . Here fishing the fingerlakes and the bays off Ontario totally different. The small mouth have moved up a bit shallow on Hemlock Lake this past week but we had a darn blizzard here this AM in Rochester. They closed all our ramps here yesterday but not hoing to stop me from getting out there. Just going to break out the jon boat and swe what they say then when I can out in anywhere . Live the lives going on each evening looking forward to tonight's auction extravaganza.!!

I heard they just shut down the boat launches in NY, all my friends up there are freaking out. Originally I was sad that I was going to miss the spring smallie/walleye run in Western New York this year. But now I'm glad I moved to Alabama haha. It's been 70-80's and overcast down here for the last two weeks haha. I just need to figure out this crazy tidal estuary bass fishery! The Mobile Delta is totally different than the great lakes, the finer lakes, and the rivers of the Southern Tier! I'm lost down here!

I grew up fishing that dam, we used to go up on the edge of the current where the water outlet is and drift till the power pole and catch a smallmouth almost every cast and just do that from sunrise to sunset.

I also grew up fishing there too! And we would also use the turbine current to float down past the towers. Small world, huh? We live in Indiana, and my dad would take me there for vacation on spring break. I caught a 6.1lb smallmouth there and mounted it. Still hanging on my wall to this day! It was the fish of a lifetime for me. Some really amazing memories there, for sure. Glad you got to experience that place too. Did you fish the blowhole over on the left side of Wheeler Dam??? They would sound the alarm to let people know they were about to blow the water out, and when they did that, the fish would go crazy by that blowhole... I hooked into a monster striper over there, and the sum-bitch spooled me, and took all my line before we could get the boat started up to chase it! Lol. Man... I'd give anything to be able to afford a decent boat, so I could go back there one day. My dad is too old now, and sold his boat. So it's always been my dream to be able to afford a boat, and take him down there to fish, like he did with me. But I don't think he'll be around long enough for that to happen, sadly. Welcome!! Wilson is a Deep, short, and clean lake. It’s to short between Dams to be on the main Circuit for some reason. Zero industrial businesses. Producing real smallmouth. Shh. Lol.

6 pound smallmouth?!?!? I fish for them in the CA Delta and the biggest they’ll get is 2.5-3 pounds. When at the Delta, I will try for the Triple: Largemouth, Smallmouth, Striper.
