Cast with your left and wind with your right, that's how you're meant to use a right handed baitcaster. Baitcaster reels are made for power winding, no need to lift and lower the rod to reel in the fish so it doesn't matter if you use left or right reels, just cast with the opposite to avoid switching the rod from hand to hand after a cast. A lot of dropped fish on that lure, nice to see the switch! keep it up with the great content!

Alex, interesting to see hear your thoughts on 'right hand reel'. An age old debate hey. For mine- left hand reel so much more efficient. You cast with your best (right) hand and leave it in your best hand. No swapping after the cast. I see you think the same. Great vid.

Totally agree, only reason to wind with your right is if you cast with your left. Swapping hands is just silly and you have way more control with the rod in your dominant hand

I've fished my whole life, casting out of my left hand and winding with my right, and I don't swap hands? Think it's the right handed people with the problem lol.
@Michael_Lane_Fishing Жыл бұрын
@@LankyLarrikin sounds like you are a natural left handed rod holder if you leave the rod in your left hand the whole time. Your best hand is used for rod control, casting distance/accuracy, rod tip manipulation and so on.

@@Michael_Lane_Fishing it confuses me why people still gotta swap hands after casting lmao

I'm the opposite, naturally right handed, but I use a right hand baitcaster, cast with left, no passing the rod between hands that's just silly hey 😂

It's interesting. I cast right handed, all my spinning reels are left hand wind and all my overheads and baitcasters are right hand wind. When I first started using overheads they were all right hand wind.

I really disliked having to change hands all the time. Also just felt unnatural for me because its not what I'm used to doing but I'm sure that would go away given time

Ha ha, you need to learn how to use both hands bud and be ambidextrous 😊 and even change hands. That first fish was crazy for that combo. I found a very similar lure hanging in a tree after a flood a few years back but have never used it cause I thought it was too big but you're catching tiny fish on it?
@HawkesyFishing Жыл бұрын
Hahaha it got a bit better by the end of the session just took some getting used to. I still think if you have to change hands after you cast you're doing it wrong. I've found with the larger lures its either the tiny fish or the bigger fish that eat them here. I think its cause the smaller ones haven't learnt not to try eat things their own size yet lol

cracking vid mate what is your favorite lure to use for murray cod
@HawkesyFishing Жыл бұрын
Picking just one favourite is pretty tough especially with the broad range of locations you can chase cod. For these smaller waterways it would have to be the spinwright spinnerbait I used in this video or a 5" castaic jerky j swim rigged weedless with an underspin

I actually found the person who lost this to give back to them. Still need to organise getting to them but it will happen
