This happened to me when I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8. It had just began raining and it would later develop into a thunderstorm, but I dropped a bare hook into the water just off the end of the dock where I could see fish. Within quite literally two seconds, I had a fish on my line. It caught me off guard, so the fish was able to swallow the hook. Being inexperienced and without a tackle box, I quickly brought the fish to my uncle, the supervising adult on the shoreline who always helped me when this happened. He hadn't noticed that I caught the fish without any bait, so I told him and he didn't believe me. After releasing the creature, I went back to the dock and did the same thing. Again, within two seconds, another fish was on my line. This time I set the hook correctly, and simultaneously yanked the bluegill out of the water. I looked over and he said heartily, "Got-damn, boy!" I'll never forget this.

If you’re a fisher, please don’t kick yourself down for not “having this ability”. Because you probably do, is just than in some places is harder and in others is easy and is ok.

When I would go out of Port Salerno , Florida the captain using the fish finder would stop the boat around a 38 footer over a school of bait fish that size. We used much smaller hooks with about 5 spread out on 1 line and jigged the line ...nailed 2 to 3 at a time.... that was our bait for an awesome day of fishing off the Florida coast... circa 1992, 1996.... Great memories!!!! It was the shining gold tint that attracted them...haha 😄

So, this guy obviously has never seen how industrial tuna fishing is done. A bunch of burly blokes stand down each side of a fast moving boat and just throw a line with a weighted hook in. Literally, it goes in, comes back out, fish goes over their heads and drops off into the hold, line goes straight back into the water, over and over for an hour or more. You can do a similar thing off a wharf that is well lit at night, if you are in an area frequented by mackerel, as they will eat anything that moves. A shiny silver hook with a small sinker above it, and you catch them as soon as the hook moves.

Those are the most easiest fish to catch. You can literally scoop them up with a homemade scooper. They difficult to skin. The water discharged from their bodies can cause damage to the eyes. Nice when salted.
