Hello, everyone, In today’s video, I am going to share one ancient practice of fishing. It’s called Ukai -cormorant fishing, this traditional fishing technique is both practiced in China and Japan.
The Ukai fishing method has a history of over 1300 years in Japan.
Ukai is practiced on a wooden boat carries a large fire to provide light for the boatmen to steer and the birds to fish by.
The fisherman ties a snare around the cormorant’s neck, this prevents the large fish from being swallowed and delivered to their stomach directly, then he sends the cormorants out with rope tied around its neck. When a cormorant catches a fish, the fish is kept in a special pouch in the cormorant’s throat, the fisherman then pulls the bird back to the boat and let it spit the fish out.
The gentle wind with the burning fires in the distance and accompanied by the dim city lights around the river, I hope you could enjoy this romantic atmosphere.
