I only just found this channel. You're an absolutely amazing host, and your enthusiasm is contagious. I don't even fish and I couldn't stop watching. There's something very special about being able to get people interested in something they previously had no interest in. And I respect the hell out of wanting to share that. And envy being able to do it for a living. I may have only found your channel today, but I'm glad you beat cancer and are back to living your life to the fullest. I don't know any details about the cancer other than surgery was involved. But I know it's a horrible thing no matter how it goes down.

Hey Josh, not trying to be your mother, and I know this is several months old, but I can tell you that since you previously had cancer, you really should protect your hands with gloves. The chance that you get an infection or sepsis is pretty high post cancer treatment and we don't want to see anything happen to you. Talk to your doctor about it. I know you're an adult and you have everything handled, but obviously we want to see you around for a long time. I know gloves suck and theyre hot, uncomfortable, ungainly, etc.

Squid have their “brain” in a ring around their main trunk. Their “throat” goes through this ring. So if the squid takes a bite of food that’s a little too big, they can literally give themselves brain damage from eating too much.

I know you said that the electric reel isn't cheating, but where's the fun in just throwing out a bait and waiting, and then pressing a button. the most action you get is watching the fish fight the reel instead of you and then gaffing it. I get bored if I'm not doing the work of at least working a jig or something while surf fishing a live bait on another rod. Setting the hook yourself and finessing a bait is more than half of the fun for me. Technique and skill, way more satisfying than sitting and waiting. and then using an electric reel on top of that... I couldn't. And I also have a very messed up back with herniated disks. But that's just me.

This is one of my favorite guides I've seen you go out to fish with. I saw a lot of ppl have commented that he's inhumane towards the animals but this is a man who's fishing to feed his family every night. To me it seems like he respects the fish and knows that most of these large squid and swordfish could seriously hurt ppl if not handled correctly. This is how he pays his bills and supports his kids, and you can tell the importance of it to him through how much he knows. Great video, I just recently found your channel again and I'm going to do some fishing this week for the first time in a few years.

People who make comments that claim electric reels are cheating should try hand-hauling or hand-cranking line from 400 fathoms. Old-time bottomfish fishermen in Hawaii did it that way long ago, but no one even considers doing it now.
