When you're reeling in a fish in the surf, back up towards the dryer sand, don't horse him, let it run unless a seal is nearby, and use the waves to your advantage the shallower the fish gets. Backing up allows the fish to get to the sand without being spooked from seeing you, thus making a last dash against the wave and resulting in you losing a fish. Hope this make sense.
@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
that makes total sense! after reviewing the video and what you said makes a lot of sense. :) tight lines

When I was a teenager in the mid 1970's I caught a 5 lb. Yellowfin Croaker in the surf at San Onofre on 6 lb. test with live sand crab for bait. Let them run as the wave pulls out and work them in as the wave pushes in. Very memorable fight. Unfortunately that was my last surf fishing experience.

Currently , Ocean Beach, ocean side, del mar, Cardiff, ...honestly , they are everywhere right now THAT has sand crab beds. Thats the key, sometimes the beaches I fish that had Corbina before, does not always have sand crab beds. you gotta to check the beach out before

Just curious, are sand fleas able to be caught at any beach in California or just few spots? Would like to use these as baits.

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel nice, I'll check them out. Great video BTW I learned a lot. One of these days I'll get my surf rig finished and I'll make a trip down there to take a shot at it.

When you throw in surf do you let your line sit for a while, or do you start reeling right away?
@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
Good question, I was casting to spots where I think they were, and let it sit there for 1 min or so, I would reel in the slack , as the waves would play a factor in the line tension.

What’s up Rodney, where is that location exactly?

I retract my previous question. I read enough comments to see you don’t reveal locations. Understood

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel really enjoy watching your fishing vids. Been fishing San Diego for over 23 years. Have had good hits behind convention center. Seen a few on yaks out there too.

@@Trail_Tinker_Toyota I know exactly where you are talking about. Nice little holes there for spotties and halibut to hang out :)

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel massive hits on mackerel. Drop with a foot lead off a swivel with torpedo 2oz and hold on. Landed a few sharks there at night. Few other interesting friends like octopus, halibut, and cuda.

I cant give exact spots, just as courtesy for other anglers who knows the spot, however a lot of beaches right now from san diego to Huntington beach are getting hit pretty good with corbina right now!

@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
I cant say exactly! However I can safely say , a lot of the beaches right now, from point of conception to imperial beach is getting hit hard with corbina in the surf. The sand crabs are abundant right now and the corbina are eating them this time of the year.
