I've been living in the UK for 15 years originally from USA) and I'm sorry to say I never heard about this incident. I've fished several lure only shore based bass tournaments here and the thought of cheating never crossed my mind. I have to say though, coastal Fisheries enforcement here is a joke, it's literally nonexistent. Therefore not surprising this chap only got a slight slap on the wrist for the actual theft of the fish. This whole thing is blatant disregard for rules, ethics and decency. It's a sad state of affairs over here for sure.

A guy named Brian peck was watching my apartment while I was in Jamaica in 2005. At that time I had a 30 inch saugeye in a small private pond. He caught that critter and had her mounted while I was away... pos!

Bringing this story up to 2025, here is my thought or two. 1. As money gets bigger, more and more people will be tempted to cheat. 2. Professional fishing leagues need officials in every boat. 3. Professional fishing leagues need smaller fields to accomplish need #2. MLF and BASS both seem to be heading in this direction, with BASS being slightly slower.

usually when this happens the people are given lifetime bans from fishing in more tournaments.. so that penalty most the time increased what happens overall if they didnt give him one of those they messed up big time. i used to live near mike long so ya i dont think anyone has cheated as bad as that guy.

I loathe cheaters. I loathe even more "sportsman" who do not take care of their catch or in this case the fish he illegally captured. He got off easy? You can literally get thrown in jail and have your assets frozen for so called "hate speech" in that country. Stealing property and being cruel to an animal gets a small fine? Nothing comes close to Mike Long raising bass in his garage aquarium, then fiberglassing secret livewells into his bass boat and bringing the homegrown fish to the tournament scales. That guy is the worst of the worst.
