Pykes is such an underrated spot. Scenic views, easy access and some big trout in there. Deserves a lot more praise!

How do you protect the eye of the tip of a fishing rod when you are using a running line sinker when you are finished fishing or while fishing as well so you don't break the special ceramic rain?

Great Video Alan! What speed do you normally troll the Tassie Devils at
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
A tad faster then most lures, because of the way the winged lures work in the water. We found 2.8 to 3.4ks was spot on. Youll see one part of the vid showing a close up of the rod in the holder and us talking about speeds.

Hey Alan, I’m starting to learn how to fish with hardbody surface lures. My problem is I can’t cast very far with a surface lure since it’s so light and reeling in is way too quick. Any tips on how to cast further on land based with surface lures? I’m using a shimano 4000
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Casting distance will come from using a very light spin rod, light reel and thin diameter braid. Something like a 1-3kg or 1-4kg rod, 2000 or 25000 size reel and 6lb to 10lb braid. Youll find you will get heaps better casting distance. Also some lures cast better than others.
@neil92742 жыл бұрын
With surface lures l sometimes put a small split shot close to the lure just to give me a little more distance
@neil92742 жыл бұрын
I use 1-2 kilo line or l use my fly rod
@timbutler57962 жыл бұрын
Nice job Alan. Without lead line or anything to drop the lure down, I assume that you are targeting relatively shallow water? 3 / 4 metres ish?
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
yes thats 100% correct
@sten2246 Жыл бұрын
Stop at the first toilet block as you enter. Walk along to your right until you come to where it shallows out into a cove type shape. Yabbies nah, worms nah, only little reddies on those. Now here it is, the one and only bait and I repeat , the one and only bait for the big wild brown trout not the weaker stocked trout but the super cunning big browns the super bait is frozen blue bait. That's right you heard it here and now readily available frozen blue bait. Try to purchase the smallest pilchards you can find they are deadly for Pykes.Been fishing here for 48 years and was taught by an old master trout guy that used to live around there.At night he used to walk down through the pines and wade out a bit and hang a lantern on a pole and float fish crickets and small frogs etc. It is nice for kids and that to catch a stocked trout but if you are really serious and very patient your trophy trout could be just around the corner. P.S I have been training a chicken to catch those stocked trout as they are pretty dumb lol.

@martinthompson25842 жыл бұрын
@@fishingmad it's very addictive. Not only is the fishing great, but the exploring remote streams in the high country is awesome. It's a good reason to get up there and explore. I stopped once I had kids and have recently started learning bait fishing because it's much more accessible to my young boys. Plus thanks to you and other local youtubers, I now have a decent kayak setup which I'm hoping will pay dividends once spring comes around. But combining the yak and fly is certainly tempting, especially somewhere like Lake Eildon. For inspiration, check out "A river somewhere" by locals at Working Dog, or "A River Runs Through It", which includes a young Brad Pitt.
