In this episode I cover Waggler Fishing Mistakes. Specifically the top 7 mistakes I see made by beginners.
For those of you who have watched my earlier videos covering Waggler Float setup and How to fish with a Waggler Float, these mistakes are still relevant to you. Even though you think you have followed my instructions to the letter, I bet there are at least a couple of mistakes you can identify with.

Keep them coming Den, great way of putting loads of useful information over . Fishing has proved to be my saviour during this year, if I’m not fishing I’m watching your videos and thinking about it, at least until it’s time for me to make the tea.

Thanks again Stephen. Now is the time to start collecting reeds in the UK. In the Summer they are too green. Just make sure you keep them somewhere warm and dry for a few days before making your floats. That will allow any residual moisture to dry out.

Very good video for the beginner 👍 no mention of plumbing up which is the reason most dont like fishing the waggler. The way I plumb the depth is the slide a small float stop on the line, then a straight waggler which is very buoyant (use a float adaptor) a no 8 shot to secure the float in place, so now float is inbetween the rubber float stop and the no 8 shot (Only plumb the depth with straight wagglers as these floats have a thick tip which makes it easier to get an accurate reading ) Plumb up so you can just see the tip of the float which means exact dead depth. Now place your hook in hook keeper eye if you have one or just your first rod eye nearest the reel. Place your float flat against the rod / tip of the float facing away from the reel, now mark the rod with a small amount of tip ex. You now have the depth marked on your rod. You can now put a different float on ie thin tipped float( insert waggler ) even if this float is shorter than the straight waggler it does not matter. Good starting point is to go 6 inches over depth, meaning having the tip of your float 6 inches past the tip ex mark. waggler fishing is a very skilled type of fishing hence the reason not many do it. When its flat calm waggler fishing is very simple providing you get the basics right. Bit of tow and that's when people tend to give up and just chuck a bomb out. If your floats not holding still enough it means presentation is bad so change something ie go more over depth, if you are going over depth of up to 1 foot always use a straight waggler Always use the thinnest line you can, for silver fish bream 3lb line is ample. Hope this helps. I've been waggler fishing for 25 years and it's the most rewarding style of fishing. Hope this help.

Thanks for your comments Rikki. You do seem to have a good handle on how to plumb the depth and control the Waggler in windy conditions. In this video, I had to choose a small number of the mistakes people make, otherwise, it would have gone on for hours. I have done other videos on How to plumb the Depth and How to Control a Waggler in Windy Conditions so hopefully others can learn from them.

Great video for the waggler. With the problem of drift/undertow, have you never tried back shotting? Apart from helping sink the line, altering the distance of the back shot can greatly reduce drift. Got this tip from an avid match angler, about 35 years ago.

Love the common sense to float fishing without telling people they can fish without spending a fortune on this designer gear or that designer gear and that’s anyone can fish without having to spend a fortune on top designer gear
@FishingwithDen

Thanks Stephen. A million years ago when I was a kid, everybody made stuff like floats. These days I think hardly anyone is still doing it for themselves. As you say, it seems that the designer gear has taken over. By the way, I am in the process of doing the drawings for my version of a Designer Seatbox. I should start the build in the next couple of months. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out. if you don't see a video, then I blew it! Lol.

You the man Den. They should've started selling this tackle everywhere in the US a long time ago. Good explanations in this one.
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matthew. I had a look at the American Carp Society Website which you mentioned in another post. It seems your Paylakes are the same kind of thing as our 'Commercial' venues in the UK. Your tackle and tactics seem to be more geared up for shorter rods, heavier lines and bigger hooks though.
@matthewjackson2853
@matthewjackson2853 4 жыл бұрын
@@FishingwithDen The shorter rods are bass rods which are available anywhere here. The reels that are most often used are round, level-wind baitcasters with line-out alarms or "bait clickers" as some call them. We don't have tackle that was made specifically for catching carp in the US. Our style of fishing probably wouldn't be very productive at all for your match fishing. But I'll tell you one thing. Seeing those round reels stand up on the rod holder and hearing that bait clicker is something that never gets old. If you would like to see some runs with these rods and reels on "paylake stands" you might try looking at Patrick Neese channel.

Always enjoy your videos Den, thanks. A question when do you use floating line and when to use sinking line with waggles fishing?
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 6 ай бұрын
Thanks Shaun. To be honest mate, I don't worry about it. Most lines will float on the surface initially due to surface tension, but you can always sink it easily with a quick flick of your rod tip, or by reeling in 2 or 3 turns. Most of the time I want my line to sink, so it doesn't get pulled around in the breeze and therefore pull the float out of position. If you are using the shallow waggler technique, you could use floating line, but as I said above, most line floats initially. I hope that helps.

@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Levi. Thanks for your comments. I am not sure of exactly what you are asking for here. If you mean simply fishing with a bottom bait using a float, I have a number of videos for beginners on this. If you mean fishing on the bottom with a Method Feeder, there are also videos telling you how to do that. To view all these videos, just go to my channel and have a look at the Float Fishing and Method Feeder Fishing Playlists and you should find what you need. You did mention an easy method of fishing on the bottom though, so I am thinking you may be asking for information on a simple straight ledgering video. I think it would be a good idea for me to produce such a video, so I will do that in the next 2-3 weeks. I hope that helps.
