Im from the wheeling,wv area and there are stories of divers going down in shark cages while wielding. Because the cat fish were as big as Volkswagens. This was when the steel mills were a big deal and a lot of warm water was getting pumped into the river.

In addition, what nuclear power plant is that. Ours still won’t let us fish the discharge since 9/11. was the best hot spot around if you know how to fish it. Yes warmer water, but believe the number one attractant is the higher oxygenation.

JoshGreenAdventures I’ll be honest I haven’t done a lot of bank fishing but when it comes to either species structure is key. Flatheads like the wooden stuff and out of current areas. Blues like ledges and anything that breaks the current but will be found in higher current areas more often. Fresh bait is a must. Spawn winding down and temps rising you should do alright at night in shallow areas. Hope that helps some... good luck out there bud!

I live in Louisville and want to start fishing the Ohio River for cats, but I only have a small nitro bass boat and my wife doesn't think it's big enough for the Ohio. Ds Scroggin it depends on the section and weather I’m sure. I’d say do as much research as possible. Books, Internet, locals, bait shops, anywhere you can gain some knowledge. Then it’s just a matter of going out and giving it a try. A lot of guys catfish out of bass boats on The James River which is my local body of water. We were up near Pittsburgh in this video. Good fishing guys. I'm from around Cincinnati. From Portsmouth down is netted out for the kiddie puddle pay ponds. James Reed is opening another pay lake in Pa. Only a matter of time and he and his chronies will have the upper part of the river hoop netted out. He'll target the Allegheny and Monangahila that forms the Ohio. West Virginia owns the Ohio where you are at . West Virginia doesn't allow netting. He's gotten rich by relentlessly taking 100's of thousands of pounds of 20 plus year old fish faster than the river can replace them. His place is called Catfishermans Paradise. He'll be heading for the James and Potomac next!!! He needs to have a tragic accident.

That guys sounds like a real scumbag. PA owns the river till the Ohio border then WV owns. Fortunately commercial fishing and hoop nets are illegal in PA as well (other than on lake erie) so I doubt it's worth it for him to come up here as I'm sure we will give him and his buddies hell.
