Awesome video with a few good tips that I took note of! I'm an avid catfisherman in North West Arkansas. My home town of Ozark Arkansas is nestled on the bank of the Arkansas River and if you ain't a fisherman around here, than you ain't a man at all. If you guys are ever over this way, give me a holler and I'll set you up in all the right spots. There's almost never a day that goes by out of the year that you don't see at least a couple of guys sitting in a boat or on the bank sharing tales of the ones that got away while watching some catfish poles.

Good video. There were a lot of useful tips in this one. You guys caught more flatheads in this video than I caught all year! I mostly catch channels, fishing the dishpan lakes in my area, but I do get a lot of those over 10. Favorite bait is shad guts, usually catch my flatheads trolling crankbaits for walleye.

Nice to see veteran fisherman on the water doing what they love. Guys I live down in North Carolina and our rivers are tidal here and makes for hard fishing, any suggestions for fishing in the middle of march on tidal rivers with the water temps around 45°? We also have had alot of rain which has caused rivers to be higher than usual.

I really enjoyed this video. In my adult years i have grown away from catfishin because as a little boy i did it as a chore. Rake the leaves, hang the clothes, and catch supper. I grew up on all sides of the gulf of mexico ....and poor. I spent 4 years in colorado and thats where i got introduced to trout, then 10 years in carolina and that was my 14 years in the army. Now i considered myself a pretty good catfisherman because on $1.50 worth of chicken livers i can go to any body of water that holds em and catch enough channell to set the table and thats all ive ever concerned myself with. I always figured flatheads and bullheads for a trash fish and never put thought into it for sport..... Here in the next couple months im gonna shift away from all the casting and reeling for walleye and bass and trout and crappie im gonna get to the maumee and the ohio river with some cut bait and im gonna fish for some monster flathead. Just got a couple questions im hoping you can help me with: When fishing flathead is there a relationship beween water depth and fish size? Alot of my favorite holes are near dams and the water isnt too deep. If im catching small flatheads should i stay put and wait for a big one or venture off in search of bigger fish? And thanks for the video fellas.. Anytime something brings me new excitement to fishing im a happy man

I really like that rig, I have used a similar setup for several type of fishing. I am a little confused by the brush comment, for some of the best Flathead fishing I have done, was under a underpass in about forty feet of water. Not huge Flatheads, but I was not going for the big boys. More around the 5 LBS range.

Flatheads, most think they have to be caught on live bait, but they can infact be caught on dead fish. Here on the Wabash river goldeye is the catfish candy for flatheads. good tips and info yall did and steve months months back I see your face in a magazine in-fishermen as I was over looking it at the food store and I took pictures but never got them uploaded , as its going to upload later early spring so your info can get them wanting to hit the water in search of monster flatheads

And I loaded them with the Shimano TRNG200G Triton Levelwinds, they're only like $70 and well worth it! And spooled them with 40lb. Big Game.. And I had to get 4 because that's my favorite number. lol.

Steve douglas the old timers around here say to catch two blue gill and cut one in half rig the two cuts on one rod and the live bait on the other and thats how they get em.... thats pretty consistent woth the videos here. Theres a rumor in the bait shops that a fella just caght 100lb flat head in defiance ohio this way.... but ive not seen any evidence to confirm this... if its true its a new state record.

Been using rigs similar to this for over 30 years in Saltwater. Only difference is that I use either 8 or 10 oz pyramid sinkers. We never called them slip sinkers, we called them fish finder rigs. Also we use the beads on 100 lb leader. The plastic “slip sinker” thing will not handle the stress and could literally kill someone with a pyramid sinker. We usually use 12 foot rods designed to handle 8 n bait all day long. Or 10 oz depending on the situation. A friend of mine that lives on one of the Islands I used to fish, witnessed one of those white slider things fail under heavy loading of the rod and it went completely through the radiator of a full size suburban and mashed up against the block. But the fish with the “broken tail” is actually genetic as well as I remember. Look on the TWRA web site and you can see pictures of bass with the same thing. And I think they said it was genetic.

So I'm really trying to figure out the flathead game. I was thinking I should be using live bait for flathead. What gives? Right now during the spring should I fish live bait around cover? should I wait no more than 1 hour per area of cover?
