Hey everyone! Welcome back to Fishlikeus! Today we're going to take you with us on an adventure where we'll show you how to catch fiddler crabs! Because we teach fishing lessons we enjoy teaching what it takes to be resourceful "from bait to plate". That means catching your own bait when it's required (or desired!). Its' definitely cheaper on a monetary level, but it will take some practice and time to collect them so the choice is yours. In the instance that the bait store is out of fiddler crabs and you had your heart set on sheepshead fishing....you will want to know how to catch fiddler crabs. And we're going to show you how (see video). Fiddler crabs can be difficult to catch, which makes them fun! You can find them where the mangroves meet the sandy shores in almost any area. If you don't see them as you pull up (you have to be very sneaky to do this), then you'll most certainly notice their presence by the remnants of tiny sand balls surrounding holes in the sand. That's the tale tell sign that there are fiddler crabs around and at the right times of the year you'll find them almost everywhere! Once you find them, you'll want to gather a few tools to assist you unless you have true cat-like reflexes and saint-like patience. They are quick to see us and even quicker when they dart back into their holes! Captain Erik shows us a trick on how to get them out of there though. And although there are other ways (like a shovel), we prefer to leave the beaches looking the way we found them. Take only pictures, leave only footprints as they say. And pick up a little trash if you see it! Stay tuned to our Facebook page ( fishlikeus) for announcements on the next 'Trashin' for Fish' day! If you aren't familiar...this is a day we spend without our poles picking up trash in an effort to give back to our fellow fish-kind. Learn more about it here: • Fishing Secret Reveale... ). You can use the same bucket you use to collect trash...to collect fiddler crabs too! In the instance that you go hunting for fiddler crabs, we have found that they keep well with a little wet sand...and are hearty enough to survive the night! We will often teach our clients how to catch fiddler crabs as a part of their lesson because it's a good skill to have. If we're dock fishing we most definitely collect them for our kayak fishing charters! They're great bait and the fish love them! And since we feed so many fish in our angling attempts we figure fish like that. Which is why fish like us! Subscribe to our page or like/comment below. We'd be interested to hear how you catch bait and what you use to find the best bait for BIG fish! If you're new to FishLikeUs then we thank you for visiting and watching! We look forward to seeing you on the water! 😎

Oh my, these are the comments that make it all worth it. I am honored. Please avoid watching my LIVE replays because although I am still “nice”. I tend to use explicit language during a hook up ☺️

Great job. Here in NC sometimes you cannot find the "herds" of fiddlers, but can find small patches of beach on the ICW that are hole ridden. I usually carry a large wide blade butcher knife with me. I squat, sit very still, and wait for the fiddler to come to the top of the hole. At a shallow angle, I push the knife into the hole below the fiddler, and he cannot retreat. He is then very easy to extract as he is only an inch deep in the sand. I also keep the crabs for a week or more. They eat the algae from the sand. I keep an oblong plastic container that is 18 x 8 x 6 high. I put 1 inch of sand in the bottom. I keep them in the shade so the sun won't cook them. I put water in the container and prop one end up about two inches so all the water runs to one end. All day and night, they can go drink, or cool off in the water, and go back up the beach and burrow up in the sand. I pour the water out every other day, and put cool fresh water in the container. I have two dozen in my container right now that I captured 9 days ago, and they are doing fine. If one does die, all you find is the claw in the container. They are cannibals. You can keep them like this for upwards of two weeks. Keep up the good videos!

2:10 The flexing of the large claw by the males is partly associated with courtship, attempting to attract the females. And interestingly enough, the larger the claw, the more likely to attract a female. The large claw is also used for battling their male rivals. I’ve also read that the larger the opening to the tunnel, and this might be obvious, but the larger the male inside.

I've seen guys set up pvc pipe at 90 degree angle with a 5 gallon bucket buried in the inside corner and herd the fiddlers towards it , they run and fall right into the bucket . It was in S.C. on marsh flats at low tide where there were thousands of them .

Can anyone tell me where I could catch some fiddlers carbs in Miami, FL?
@CaptainErikLIVE
@CaptainErikLIVE 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about Miami that well, however, east coast beaches are famous for “sand fleas”. They are tiny crabs that live in the surf just below the sandy surface.

Have you ever been pinched? We still get nervous handling crabs. Captain Erik got pinched by a stone crab years ago and almost broke his finger. It’s a high risk high reward bait.😁😁
