Hey everyone! Welcome back to Fishlikeus! Today we're going to take you with us on an adventure where we'll show you how to catch fiddler crabs! Because we teach fishing lessons we enjoy teaching what it takes to be resourceful "from bait to plate". That means catching your own bait when it's required (or desired!). Its' definitely cheaper on a monetary level, but it will take some practice and time to collect them so the choice is yours. In the instance that the bait store is out of fiddler crabs and you had your heart set on sheepshead fishing....you will want to know how to catch fiddler crabs. And we're going to show you how (see video). Fiddler crabs can be difficult to catch, which makes them fun! You can find them where the mangroves meet the sandy shores in almost any area. If you don't see them as you pull up (you have to be very sneaky to do this), then you'll most certainly notice their presence by the remnants of tiny sand balls surrounding holes in the sand. That's the tale tell sign that there are fiddler crabs around and at the right times of the year you'll find them almost everywhere! Once you find them, you'll want to gather a few tools to assist you unless you have true cat-like reflexes and saint-like patience. They are quick to see us and even quicker when they dart back into their holes! Captain Erik shows us a trick on how to get them out of there though. And although there are other ways (like a shovel), we prefer to leave the beaches looking the way we found them. Take only pictures, leave only footprints as they say. And pick up a little trash if you see it! Stay tuned to our Facebook page ( fishlikeus) for announcements on the next 'Trashin' for Fish' day! If you aren't familiar...this is a day we spend without our poles picking up trash in an effort to give back to our fellow fish-kind. Learn more about it here: • Fishing Secret Reveale... ). You can use the same bucket you use to collect trash...to collect fiddler crabs too! In the instance that you go hunting for fiddler crabs, we have found that they keep well with a little wet sand...and are hearty enough to survive the night! We will often teach our clients how to catch fiddler crabs as a part of their lesson because it's a good skill to have. If we're dock fishing we most definitely collect them for our kayak fishing charters! They're great bait and the fish love them! And since we feed so many fish in our angling attempts we figure fish like that. Which is why fish like us! Subscribe to our page or like/comment below. We'd be interested to hear how you catch bait and what you use to find the best bait for BIG fish! If you're new to FishLikeUs then we thank you for visiting and watching! We look forward to seeing you on the water! 😎
