So glad that Greg is doing a recording of this because every other player seems to think that PAF style pick ups are meant for metal and play over some stupid drum track with really terrible metal riffs. Love u greg!!!!!

Excellent! Cant believe he's gonna be in my neck of the woods in a week! Fishman has been really kicking ass with their new stuff,i only knew them for acoustic pickups.

I don't use batterys or battery packs with my Fishman Fluence pups anymore. I just switched my TS cable to a TRS and swapped the input jack on the first pedal in my chain to a TRS then connected 9v to the ring connection. Then wired my guitar the same way. Now they are always plug and play. Later I went back and made the power variable with a drok dc converter ($15). So now I can supply anywhere from .5v dc all the way to 30v dc. But of course you should never go above 18v and some change. I'll put a cap on it eventually just in case. Fishman says the 18v mod isnt nessesary but it's fine of that's how you want to power them. The back of the pickups even say 9-18v. I notice much better tone consistency at 18v. Before when I was using batterys some days the pickups were amazing and othes something was off and it drove me crazy. I've had my Fishmans hooked up to variable dc power supply for a year and play daily and they've sounded perfect every single time I plug in now. Fishman should offer a mini 125A pedal sized variable power supply that you use with a TRS cable. A lot of guys dont try actives cause they don't want to fumble with batterys or have to remember to charge their guitar. And before anyone says the 9v batterys last "for eternity and beyond" let me say, that's total bullshit in my opinion. At about 8.15V or lower and I can tell a difference. The pickups dont sound as full but mainly they stop sounding consistent and they feel different. Anyways I LOVE my Fishman Moderns (both sets) and I highly recommend them. There is a learning curve at first but once you get it then it will be like riding a bike from then on out. I'll never be without at least one Fishman equipped guitar for the rest of my life and probably will end up with a few more. If you need versatility note separation and pickups that sound great clean and with gain then look no further. The split coil* option is worth wiring up (I wired up the inner and outer coil split option cause they are different sounds especially on the bridge and both are highly useable). The inner coils are warmer and fuller and the outer coils are closer to tele single coils with high end and spank and less mids. Most outer coil split bridge humbuckers on passives are too thin but with the preamp on the Fishmans they have plenty girth. And the best part by far is how well the splits take gain. Any passive coil split takes gain poorly unless you wire it as a partial split (which I do cause its superior) but it still is far from ideal. With the Fishmans though they actually sound like singles and take gain really well. I wired my guitar for all the options and regularly use them all. The only exception being the HF tilt which I put on a slider switch inside the control cavity cause with my 7 string and its gauges it doesn't make much difference. But when I go back to more traditional gauges it's available from the cavity. Anyways I've gone on way too long. I'm finishing up a 5 month long tele build this weekend/week and after this I plan on picking up a PRS SE Standard 24 that the Fluence Open Core Classics should be perfect for. I still love my JB/59 Duncan's and my Fender Pure Vintage 64 tele pups. And I use both of those sets all the time still. But the Fishmans really do have way better note separation and clarity which makes them so nice to play. They really are the superior design. The only drawbacks are having to power them and since they are powered they act as a buffer so vintage fuzz pedals etc dont play well with them. But these days you can easily get fuzz pedals that play well with buffers before them in the signal chain. If youre on the fence jump off. They are great pickups!

I love almost everything you do… Especially the commentary. But this sounds like it's being played through an amp from RadioShack (which would be hard to find these days). I don't know what amp you're using or how you're micing it but it sounds nasal and lacking in low end.

the thought of you reading books to play all these riffs saddens me. I like the pickups.
