Being from NB, but enjoying to fish all species from salmon, trout, musky and stripers. In my opinion from being involved in the Miramichi river system for decades, the salmon population started to disappear before the striper population exploded. I believe there’s a very strong correlation between the lumber harvest practices and salmon decline. In the 90’s harvesters and wood processors were introduced to the lumber industry in NB, hence the start of clear cutting massive amounts of lumber very quickly. All the streams, creeks, underground springs, swamps and bogs that feed the Miramichi river system cold clean water are or have dried up due to no forest canopy. The Miramichi river system is now exceeding 70c into mid 70’s Salmon don’t run or spawn in 70-75c water. But it’ll never be acknowledged because there’s too much money in the lumber industry. There’s no scenario where you can take the forest surrounding the river and have the salmon as well. The decline will be blamed on stripers, anglers, seals, global warming or whatever else that doesn’t disrupt the money making forestry practices. Just some thoughts

What are your thoughts on the closing of the ganny? Will it stop the poaching and lack of enforecement? Will it cause pressure on other remote unseen spots?
