@@Lidoe I have this camera. Not having logs suck, but you can use hdr pq mode for 10 bit color. My main problem with the camera is over heating. Even in a basement. It starts over heating in 15 minutes. Even this past summer. I was taking pictures of my dog, and it was like 70 degrees out. It still over heated with it just in my hand.

I have the camera. it takes great pictures, and videos. As long is you are feeding it enough light. It will have lots of noise unless you don't. This camera is great to learn on, but that's about it. As soon as you can afford R7, or a sony a6600/6700. You should up grade. Even its main rival the ev-10ii. Has better raw photo specs, video specs, and more features.

Does nobody focus on photography and photo image quality anymore? I don't really care what it does in video, but I want to know that it is good for photos. That includes lower light photos, how good is the white balance, how good is the autofocus, etc. Also, what about that kit lens, how does it hold up?

Canon's APSC cameras are actually very good. I used an R7 as a professional photojournalist for quite a while, and even with old glass, was more than able to keep up with the big dogs at Reuters and AP dumping $10k+ on R3s and A1s with the newest glass. I wish, however, they put the same R&D into quality, L-series APSC focused glass. I'm glad they opened the RF-S mount to Sigma, but I think a canon competitor to something like the Sigma 50-100 1.8 could be *killer.* Canon's strong point IMHO has always been their cutting edge, unique lens designs, and it's a crying shame they seem uninterested in bringing that to APSC.
@JosephMartin
@JosephMartin 4 ай бұрын
absolutely! Canon is definitely treating APSC as an exclusively beginner level sensor, but when it comes to photography, they can compete at pro levels! I'd love to see them build an APSC camera with pro-grade software. I wonder if the smaller sensor could increase processing speed for things like burst photos etc.

@@JosephMartin That's what the R7 is. If you'd have somehow fooled me into thinking the little bugger was a full frame camera, with the body features, software, and speed of that camera, I'd have assumed it was a 4 or 5 thousand dollar body. Seriously. You should give an R7 a try if you ever have the chance.

@@JJARCHIE The crops for certain video formats aren't ideal, sure - but I shot lots of video with my R7 and never had a problem that was distracting or anything for my uses. That kind of stuff can be worked out, too. I just sadly don't think the Canon community will show the demand for it in that sector. Here canon perform better than sony. the image quality also better in Canon. Video quality is same sony and canon. so overall Canon is best.

R50 users or those beginners who wish to get a camera within 600USD - never think beyond ket lens at least first five months. Their only lens is usually a kit lens. At this point, Canon R50 or R10 or even R100 will never shine. Canon offer them the worst kit lens ever. The RF-S 18-45mm F4.5 to 6.3. It could be as good as M50 kit lens.
@johnwinter6061
@johnwinter6061 Ай бұрын
Yep. 18-45 is not a key lens. But a good starter to decide what to get. It's cheap in a kit. Not worth it for a separate buy. I have RF + RF 24-240. That's my 'go to' for travel grab shots. Gets used say a couple of months a year in total. I also have R50 + RF 100-400. It's for the occasional long reach. It will do me for that. The issue is that the old digital compacts have been superseded by phone cameras. They can do an excellent job (within their limitations). Canon have made these to try and get people to move from that to a DSLR and THEN a better DSLR. That's the marketing idea. I agree that it may not work. Having paid say $1,000 to $1,500 for a phone, why would that same person want to pay and other $1,000 to $2,000 for a DSLR which they may not see the difference? There IS a difference but will that market see it / notice it?

And dont even get me started on how they have been messing with the colors out of camera.. Their whole reason for being prefered for so long, and they just said.. Naaaa. Its not that important. The compact digital say $500 has been taken over by phone cameras. So you'd only go for the next step to see if you want to get serious. Funnily they believe they (and the other makers) are priced to get you in and then later on get you to buy the better and dearer gear. They are NOT intended to serve the old 'Kodak' market. The phones have that wrapped up. I'd call myself an advanced amateur with 60 years experience. Includes hand darkroom processing in B&W and colour. So my RP + RF 24-240 and my R50 + RF 100-400 suit me fine. Seems I'm in a small and dying group! Not one of Canon's target groups. Their website really doesn't have a section for me! I've swapped emails with them on that topic.

Most think so. There's now an RF-S 18-150 out and reviews on that seem decent. Also above someone said Sigma have been authorized to make RF-S lenses. The 18-45 is well overpriced as a separate item. Are you looking at CRAW or jpegs. Canon bodies do lens corrections for JPEGs and make an ordinary lens into a great lens. Clever idea to reduce lens costs for those who are not interested in fiddling around with CRAW.

@ Canon is mf ,,, first of all they have a 1.6x crop which reduces the low light capabilities compared to Sony apart from that canon’s Aperture value is also trash compares to Sony (thats a lol) they all have high number of aperture in stm lenses and costly too!!

@johnwinter6061 Ай бұрын
@@imnikshay LOL. My main camera is RP with RF 24-240. My R50 has RF 100-400. I'll let you work out why that combo. Once you use a zoom, then crop factor doesn't play a role. Tell me where to 1.6 crop factor matter with that? Simple flick of the wrist. I've got a full image and not losing 20-40% to cropping before printing. I had a Canon 600D + Tamron 18-270mm. Loved it despite some reviews for the Tamron. Ok, still a slightly smaller sensor. Lets then talk about 18MP v 26MP v 30MP and you can forget 1.5 v 1.6 crop. How about all those 4thirds fans? Smaller again. Then we can discuss processors and noise. Sensor size and noise are no longer a guaranteed fixed ratio. There are some APS-C sensors better on noise than some FF sensors. Yes cannon glass can be very expensive. But are we comparing same with same. Have a look at the prices for what I have and remember they are FF lenses which are now getting their due respect. Put a lot to FF and APS-C mirrored third party prices to shame! Finally, I'd back a savvy artist with a phone camera over any gear in the hands of anyone who cannot perceive a good shot. As for Sony, didn't they have overheating problems with one of their models? Ok, that doesn't meant Sony are Bad. I have a Sony TV and love it!

@@imnikshay There's a bit more to it than crop factor for low light. Regardless, using an 1.5 crop factor is far worse than full frame! So why are you mucking about with an APS-C for low light anyway? Also IQ and dynamic range is usually (not always) better in FF. High number maximum aperture isn't a big deal. Bokeh and F1.8 is highly overrated. Many reasons. Eg Look at Time and Nat Geo. Portraits there would not work with F1.8. That's because they tell a story! My best in show portrait was taken on 35mm film with a 55mm lens at about F5.6 or F8. Eg Background got fuzzed in the darkroom. Eg Look at an old zoom with depth of field (DoF) scales on it. Notice the relationship between DoF, focal length, f-stop and distance to subject. They are ALL involved! My old Kodak Retinette was great in low light - if you knew how to home process 35mm film to get fine grain. Dilute a quality developer and extend time. As good as using 2.5" x 3.5" negative size roll film. The sort of equivalent these days is lens correction (in camera or in editing). That can make or break a shot. Phone cameras can produce excellent results. I'm no camera snob. Get the shot right and that's it! Regardless, technology is changing and these old 'truths' are being demolished. Sensors of ANY size and ANY brand are ALL getting better. Noise at higher than ISO100 is reducing. One review says one camera is good for noise up to ISO400 and OK a bit beyond that. Also, a 30MP 1.6 crop may be better than a 24MP 1.5 crop. I have RP + Canon RF 24-240 (USM) and R50 + Canon RF 100-400 (USM). I'll let you work out why and why crop factor on the R50 does not matter to me. Yes, Canon glass can be expensive. Probably why I went for a Tamron 18-270 back in 2012. Loved it. Sigma also seems good these days, no matter what brand body. Apparently they are now making R series lenses. Some Canon R series are not too bad in price. Look at the two I have (both FF and USM) and RF-S 18-150 (APS-C STM). They easily compete in price and IQ with EF-S of any brand of the same specs! But if you want that F1.8 L series quality with USM you'll pay for it in any brand with any sensor size. I know people who swear by their Panasonic Lumix. I've had Ricoh (35mm film SLR), Pentax (35mm film SLR), Olympus x10 zoom digital), Fuji (mirrorless DSLR fixed zoom) and Canon (mirrored DSLR). When I bought them, I was happy. Time and technology improvements have seen them abandoned by me. Not because any of the brands were no good. Love what I currently have. I've always felt Canon produced the best colour. In camera lens correction and mirrorless is great.
