Total War: Shogun 2- Tokugawa Legendary Campaign Battle Snippet

This was an interesting battle I fought in my Tokugawa Legendary campaign. The Hatakeyama sent an invasion force to my eastern provinces to cause chaos. Can the freshly recruited home guard deal with the threat and enable the main force to push towards Kyoto?

Well yari ashigaru in spearwall formation actually work very well for capturing pokemon!

What are your specs? Must be pretty high to be able to run the game so smooth. I have a gtx 680 and I'm struggeling with shogun 2. rome 2 is fine though as it is much better optimized. Was thinking of upgrading soon, partly because of total war games so I was just curious.

+Johan Salqvist I don't remember exact model numbers but I have 16 gbs of ram, a geforce GTX 770, and an i7 processor. I thought Rome 2 was horribly optimized? Or did they fix it?

+fishsandwichpatrol It was at launch, but the optimization is really good now, better than both shogun and attila, as well as Napoleon.

Because I just started my Avatar Conquest 2 days ago and I could use some hints. You inspired me into grabbing my katana to be the greatest general of Japan and I really want to know what you would say about my style/tactics and whatnot. uff! I actually found bows to be useless in MY campaign, stopped using them early on. If the AI has them, I'm very happy to swarm them with Yari Ashigaru 7 armor, you might lose a full unit but hey you have 10-12 more, and once the lines meet you have a clear advantage. If I have them, I found them subpar in terms of killing power, a bow unit couldn't get half the kills the average Yari Ashi would... so I just stopped using them altogether, even though I planned on using them extensively at the start of the campaign.

Bow ashis just gradually tickle the enemy to death and you need to field at least 3 or 4 of them and have them concentrate fire to see results. Bow Warrior Monks are beastly though, and great for cheesing enemy fortresses for their superior range.

I know im coming really late to the party, BUT i've never ever used spear wall in more than 2 or 3 ocasions, and i lost some pretty good units. I always just rush them. Maybe im doing it all wrong. I mean, i do get my ass kicked everytime i play an campaing. Is the Spear Wall really better? May you give me some insight into using it with efficiency?

Melanrick you should always engage your yari ashigaru in spear wall unless you're rushing to flank with them or something. Yari ashigaru can be quite formidable in spear wall

The two times i've used them that way i lost a lot of them to an charging ashigaru unit, and against samurai it was almost useless. I think i maybe did something wrong. It was only one or two units in spear wall anyway. But thanks for take the time to answer me, it is helping a lot. Really.

You're supposed to set them up at least a second or two before they come into contact with the enemy, and it's best used when their flanks are well-guarded. Yari ashi in spear wall basically create a small "dead zone" directly in front of them where they can kill other troops without putting themselves in danger. Some of the enemy troops will rush through anyway which is why they take damage, but they end up trading very effectively, particularly with good terrain and when well rested.
