Thanks Jonny, excellent video! I really appreciate how you cover every possible scenario so well. My closest home lake is a lowland res with very dirty water and I could never figure out where to look in cold winter water. You covered it beautifully as always. Thanks again and keep the vids coming. FYI: Absolutely loved the Fishing “Jeopardy” on the live stream. I had a great time(and scored a decent 300 even). You and Randy are still my favorite channels.

Thanks Jonny. I’ve been out there fishing a few times this winter mostly jerk bait fishing and having some success. Best so far was a 19 incher on a rock crawler. 47 degree water in two feet on shoreline cover! Guess they can move shallow almost any time. Your info helps me alot

Hey Jonny, I really appreciate your video’s. I’ve been fishing for 40 years( catfishing, fly fishing, occasional bass fishing) however, I’ve just jumped in the rabbit hole of real bass fishing. There’s more to it than I could of imagined. This is my first winter, and I’m struggling. By far my hardest struggle, are you still doing on the water lessons? I would really appreciate your time!! I absolutely love fishing and see this as a challenge

Try downsizing the plastics on the Arigs. You'll get more bites with 3" swimbaits than with 5" swimbaits . We catch 25-35 lb rockfish on 3-4" swimbaits on our Arigs

I like your stuff even though I target mostly shallow bass and you concentrate on offshore techniques. Post spawn I will fish deeper water and your content has been helpful for the limited time I spend doing that. Your videos are really well done and your techniques are well presented which is unique on KZbin. What I find somewhat amusing is how you teamed up with Randy. You use your electronics alot and he, like me, is somewhat averse to relying on them, especially FFS 😉 I really enjoy both your channels I just find you two an unlikely partnership. Just an observation I thought you might comment on. Not a criticism

Jonny, thanks for the detail. I live in San Diego County and fish lakes that are typically man-made reservoirs with steep banks to create more water storage areas. A little confused on the distinction between "highland" vs. "lowland" reservoirs. What distinguishes one from another? Altitude, geography, average depth, etc. Thanks.
@kurtbecker9609
@kurtbecker9609 2 жыл бұрын
quick question if you have a minute: on your first example of flat spot/secondary point/highland reservoir... when you went to the low water view, to show the angle/slope of the areas... the steeper areas has chunk rock. the flatter spots looked more featureless/coverless/clay. are there compounding factors that involve rock/chunk vs just flats at this time of year? most stuff I run across talks about finding transitions between chunk, pea gravel or rock/clay... can you maybe weigh in on this?

In Randy’s videos he preaches spinning rods and six pound line with the jerk bait. Can you give the juice on why you use bait caster on your set up and what line size. Now I have two bait casters and two spinning rods rigged up and switch back and forth between the two. I will have to admit that spinning reels have given me a lot of misery over the years regardless of how the line was spooled on. They have turned a lot of good days on the water into bad days.🤣

Good stuff Jonny! I know you have to limit the number of baits to use for the list could go on and on. Lol. I would assume in those ditches, the underspin and blade baits are not too far behind. :-)
@BassFishingDeclassified
@BassFishingDeclassified 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was hard narrowing the baits down to a few for each area. Underspins, blade baits, jigging spoons, Damiki Rigs… the list goes on and on. The baits I mentioned in the video are the ones I’ve caught the most fish on over the years, but I have a lot of other baits tied on for specific situations. I’ll share more baits in future Catch15 prep videos.

I was hoping there was going to be a Spy Bait in this bait list. I’m getting setup for a tourney on a highland reservoir, and all the baits you’ve listed all make sense, but I also feel Spy Baits are one of the most underutilized baits. Can you only take the water down on reservoirs? All the body's of water I have around me don't show different levels of the water on Google earth it only shows the surrounding land changing. Water levels definitely change around me cause they have a winter and summer pool and I've physically these pools in person. Also I'm using the historical data on Google earth, is there another tool I can use on Google earth to bring the water down?

All of the examples in this video from a "Highland Lake" are from lakes very similar to Greers Ferry. You can find spots that look identical to the ones in this video on Greers and they will hold fish. I've fished Greers dozens of times and have caught them there on every bait and structure mentioned in this video.

I will never understand guys who get upset about throwing the A rig- why? It's not a magical bait, ppl act like the fish are just powerless to resist it when the reality is, it's like any other bait I've ever thrown in that you need the right time and location for it to work. And yes, there are multiple baits on the rig but- that's precisely how a spinner bait works to- especially the multi bladed spinners, and no one has an issue with them. Ppl throw the donkey rig without anyone getting upset- two baits, two hooks, good chance of catching doubles- just like an A rig. Do bass sometimes get more than one hook in them- yes, but I've never had it harm a fish. I'm sure it has at some point- one of them caught it in the gills or something, but I've had that happen with everything from ned rigs to crankbaits. The truth is, the A rig doesn't hurt bass any more often than any other bait. I tell you what guys don't like about it- just a few days ago I listened to Todd Castledine complaining about how mere amateurs were doing about as well as him at some lake he was practicing at because they were throwing an A rig- and he didn't think that was right. He felt it was unfair for them to enjoy as good of a day as him when they hadn't put in the time and effort he had. As a pro he has of course put in far more time on the water and developed his skill much further and he wants that to matter- how dare someone think they can be his equal. This, imo, sums up in a nutshell why guys don't like an A rig- ego.

All these points sound like they only work around a creek channel. What if there is no channel
@FishtheMoment
@FishtheMoment 2 жыл бұрын
On lakes without oblivious creek channels, look for the transitions from steeper to flatter sections of bank. Sometimes there will be no creek channel, but the contour lines on one side of a point will be much tighter together than on the other side. It takes more work to find them but they usually get less fishing pressure as a result.
