It's nice there now. The Hipsters have moved in....20 plus years ago, it was really rough.

Watching again today and getting homesick all over again. There was a junkie who would always be on the corner of Aramingo and York. Every time I went to the IGA to get groceries, I'd always get a bottle of Vitamin Water, a Clif powerbar, and give that and $5 to her. I always felt sorry for her because I'm sure she took a lot of crap from guys and of course her addiction made life itself just neverending pain. I always wanted to sit down and talk to her and find out her story but I never did. I've watched enough vids of people interviewing junkies in Kensington to know that there's not much variation, just sadness. Thanks again to PhillyJosh for this video. I'm far away now but Fishtown will always be where my heart is.

How I so miss Fishtown. I wish you would have called out the streets and well-known places: turning right on Frankford... going past La Colombe coffee shop... there is Konrad Park on the right... turning right on Memphis... there is Andy's Chicken on the left.... Cedar Point on the right.... There is Steep 'n Grind coffee... Gave me tears watching it. Although i am far away and maybe never get to return, Fishtown will always be my heart's home.

I'm curious to know what is so good about it?

@@joez3706 What I most enjoyed was the variety and high quality of small restaurants in the area. And the rowhouses were often owner occupied rather than rentals. I also liked the young people who tended to move to the area -- I found most to be intelligent progressives tolerant of difference. I liked being just 15 min. away from downtown via SEPTA. I thought many of the shops were innovative -- River Wards was great to provide a decent, small grocery in what could be seen as a food desert. Andy's Chicken, and Cedar Point were favorites. And a guy who literally had a pet Vietnamese potbelly pig that he would bring to Palmer Park just like it was a dog. Nothing but great memories of Fishtown.

E. Girard Ave! Love it! You made a great video which captured my attention from the beginning. Now aren't those trolley rails so much more tolerable than Germantown Ave.? Great job with this!

That is so interesting! We just don't have places like that in California. Well, there used to be a couple rowhouse type Irish neighborhoods in San Francisco, but they moved out decades ago.

I don't know what you are talking about there are many row homes in San Francisco...
@jeffmorse645 Жыл бұрын
@@joez3706 I know - I lived in one (The Sunset). I'm talking about specifically working class Irish neighborhoods - like The Mission District was years ago. There were a lot of Irish when I was a kid out in The Sunset too.

@@jeffmorse645 what do the Irish have to do with any of this? SF has row homes. 🙄

@@joez3706 Fishtown is a traditional Irish-American neighborhood. You know, the subject of this video? I was just commenting we really don't have too many places like that in California - SF was about it and the demographics of it has changed. Man - have spell things out for some folks.
