Toon.....your vids are absolutely killer. I've been watching you for a few years. All Philly vids are GREAT. I just LOVE that you've covered Fishtown on foot here, cuz it's definitely a place of gentrification and promotes our city. Thanks for what you bring to your viewers and to your community. A truly heartfelt thanks!

Love those corner buildings, we use to have several corner buildings in Indianapolis but they have been torn down. One thing I have noticed about Philly and the surrounding areas is lots of old buildings lots of history. Really wish they more citys would try and preserve the old buildings they are so pretty .

Thanks Toon! The Fishtown video made my day! If I had more cash in would def send it your way for the hard work you put in. Hopefully you will do an updated passyunk walk thru! I'm thinking mainly around the area with all the Mexican eateries. I hope they are all still in business. Take care.

Fishtown is Kensington, they just renamed it... some ppl in the city have this coping behavior of renaming a few blocks of some bad area to something other than north philly, west philly etc and then act like it's radically safer and all the problem residents aren't living 100 yards away, breaking into your homes and cars, mugging and jumping you, using the same grocery stores and gas stations... lmao. I can't believe how much people are paying to move into that old dump of an area. It's all the hipster closet racist dems who want to claim they live in a diverse community despite only moving there to live on the same block as bunch of other well off white people- it's a hilarious delusion. None of them grew up in the city because no one who grows up in the hood would want to live there- if they did well they would move OUT. Got out of Olney and never looked back!

I used to live in fishtown with my mom when I was real young. I think it was bellgrade street. I remember standing on the front stoop straight across the street was a bar with a fish on the sign and a big abandoned lot next to hit and kind of behind the bar down the street was a school with chain link fence on the windows. I remember a little store called Anne’s place or somthing similar and Down the st from out house was a big cemetery and a big outdoor rec playground. Can anyone help me with where I lived? I can’t remember for the life of me. This was late 90s early 2000s. Any help would be appreciated.

Was it Belgrade and Oxford? There was a bar at the corner of Frankford and Oxford.
@CTrooPerJ4 ай бұрын
It sounds like you lived on the 400 block of Belgrade. The lot is still empty and that bar is now a “Wellness” Center (therapy). Anne’s place is still there! The cemetery is called Palmer Cemetery and the rec center is still standing! I would google Palmer Cemetery and do a street view it will show you around and what Fishtown looks like today. 😊

It's crazy how even just in 2015 it was so different. I drove through recently and there are multi- level apartments everywhere. Everything is taller. Everything feels less approachable and more claustrophobic. That said the actual center area of Fishtown like near loco pez still looks basically the same because it's a bunch of row homes you can't change that much. But even within that area you'll go down a block and suddenly find this gross row of sad depressing identical modern metal buildings. I really don't understand why the city just didn't put some sort of mandates in place as to how these buildings could look. So much of the new construction makes the place look so lame.

I did not realize that Columbia Avenue ( Cecil B. Moore Avenue,) and Lehigh Ave was part of Fishtown and not a part of Kensington.
@TOON2152 жыл бұрын
Lehigh avenue is a part of many neighborhoods, port Richmond, olde Richmond, Kensington, east Kensington, west Kensington, fairhill, Glenwood, strawberry mansion,Allegheny west and so on, Fishtown does not go to Lehigh, however Cecil b more Ave runs through fishtown

@TOON215 Sorry Toon, but since they started gentrifying the neighborhood, they moved the boundaries. Original boundaries are: Frankford, York all the way to the river. A triangle. When you were looking at the place with Kensington in the name, that's the Kensington side of Frankford Ave. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Thank you. I grew up on Day Street between Girard and Thompson. Went to Adaire Elementary and Penn Treaty Jr High. It was 7th - 9th grade then. Went off to Mastbaum after that.
