The fact that you have the imagination and creative vision for pairing the fish fabric with the orange stripes and that it TOTALLY WORKED in the end result is very admirable to me. I would never have pictured those two together and yet they totally worked and you had that vision all along. The blue of those fish is really pretty and quite a unique shade. I really enjoyed the fabric, and even more after you pointed out the mermaids. When you first tried it on after sewing, I thought it was too long, but then you mentioned how you needed to hem it, and the final length was perfect. It looked lovely over the striped shirt, but I would love to see you wearing it as a sundress, and maybe with a cute sweater or shrug as well.

I’m glad you paired it with the striped blouse. The pockets looked out of place. I thought they were amazing and am glad you kept them. I was going to suggest the striped fabric as a piping on the straps to bring the pattern more into the design, but the blouse looks perfect with it. Please make something amazing with the octopus fabric. When I saw that I thought of a 50-ish romper for the beach. Please add a second wildcard fabric as well. I love this look so much.

Design is nailed. Textile knowledge is a work in progress beyond your years. The one suggestion stems from a very public lecture delivered by a professor teaching clothing construction to me as a college junior. Put thread shanks on your buttons. It will give the button a little height and keep it from pulling in the buttonhole. It is also the difference between homemade and custom. AND your work is definitely custom. Love your creativity. The octopus fabric reminds me of a sun suit my grandmother wore on her honeymoon cruise in the early 50s. It was an attached halter top/shorts outfit with a complimenting short swing coat/beach coverup with 3/4sleeves. The halter didn’t tie, it buttoned on on the left front of the bodice with a large statement button.

The dress came out cute even with the striped fabric. In my unnecessary opinion it might be more flattering with rounded puffed out or triangular bottoms to the pockets, or if the stripes were diagonal flaring outward. In saying that, your decisions made a wonderfully unique piece. You did a fantastic job as usual! The fish fabric is absolutely stunning! I would love to see it made into a 3/4 sleeve blazer with black lapels and cuffs(with embroidered fish over the cuff button holes).
