Sidka deer are a smaller line of deer, If im not mistaken they have them in alaska and there is a smaller deer as well in mexico. Head shot vs chest shot, if im within 100 yds of a white tail ill do headshots on doe and heart shots on Bucks(just behind the front shoulder blade and down about an inch), 1 because if I wanted to do a head mount, it would be impossible with a large caliber headshot and to save the neck meat if the shot is lowered at all.

Alaska has Yukon moose and they are massive. Typically in the lower 48 you see Shiras moose and they are smaller.

Your suppose to aim for the heart, and it's not about the rack. If you miss the brain your more likely to either miss entirely or not cause immediate lethal damage (which isn't ethical) and the chance of the now wounded animal getting away is greater then missing the heart and hitting the lungs or other vital organs.

Round my way our local gamekeeper shoots the head for any shot within 100 yards to drop them and keep as much meat but the local hunters go for the more popular through lung and heart shot quartering away from them as it is a much bigger target.

@@somniumisdreaming The average hunter doesn't creep within 100 yards unless they're in a tree stand or bow hunting. If you can get close enough and your aim is to notch, sure you can hit a headshot. But even then, if the animal moves at the last second... 🤷🏼‍♂️

Come on now. Tell the whole truth. Bullet diameter... Meh, they're the same. However, the casing (and powder charge) is larger for the 30-06 ( aught six, the 0 comes first) and the bullet mass is more since the 30-06 is longer as well . Simply put, the terminal ballistics of the 30-06 is greater then a .308. Of course, without a proper recoil pad it's going to beat the hell out of your shoulder to.
