The head of the smaller axe you use is for chopping (what you called "cutting"), not splitting as you suggested. The longer one is a dedicated splitting axe. You don't show the head of the chopping axe (the shorter one) up close without its cover but I can tell by the way it went through the log that it isn't a splitting axe. You should provide the models and show the heads of the axes uncovered close to the camera. The comparison is an apples to oranges comparison, not a true comparison based on length of handles. These are two very different axes.

Hi Paul - They are both splitting axe's. The smaller 28" is the Fiskar's X25 model - link here for reference: www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/fiskars-28-in-splitting-axe-0575115p.html The 36" axe is the Fiskars X27 super splitting axe. Apologies for not showing all the details in the video - It was one of my first videos shot out at the cabin. When summer roles around again, maybe i'll do another rendition with the similar comparison and try and include all the info. Thanks for the comment, view and interest in this video!

The 36" super splitting hits like a freight train - I like it because 1. i don't have to swing so many times 2. I'm tall so it helps reduce the stress of my french fry strength back

Personally, I like the x25 but don’t fault others for their preference for the x27. Not sure why this guy was trying so hard to make the x27 seem tons better but whatev. Happy splitting.

he was using the chopping version of the x25 not the splitting one so he thought x27 was so much better but the thing is they are both different types of axes my x25 is for splitting and its splits great goes thru the wood like knife thru butter

It is an X25 splitting maul - both are the same axe - just longer handle on the X27

@@northern_frontier, wrong. The short axe in the video is a chopping axe. It’s meant to cut perpendicular or through to the grain. The larger axe is a splitting axe. It’s designed to split wood by going in roughly the same direction as the grain. Neither of these are mauls. Compare a Fiskars maul with these two, and you’ll find out real quick what the differences are.

I have Fiskars x11 and x27, x 11 to small, x27 to big 😁 i think I will buy x21

I like the weight behind the 27. Though, I bought a log splitter. Makes it easier lol

If you would just swing an axe like a man you would have cut right through with either of those axes.

Lol thanks mate, I feel my axe swing is fairly decent considering. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. Though, did your mother ever tell you "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all" ? if she didn't, now I understand your underlying problem in your upbringing and the morals that you've developed as an adult - assuming you are one. Thanks for the view though!
