For those of you who have Wetterlings and Gransfor Bruks hatchets, you probably don't have or need a Fiskars. But for those of you who want a cheap hatchet that you can rely on for all you wood related needs, the Fiskars X7 is for you! There were just a few things that I thought could be done to take this hatchet from good to great, and I wanted to share them with you! Hope you enjoy!
Thanks for watching! Blessings!

Awesome video, sweet mods, but.... Not as durable as a wood handle axe? I don't see the logic in that. I switched to these for my professional use specifically because I deep destroying hickory handles...

Pretty cool mods Brendon. I have the small Fiskars Camp Ax. I think I may just have to stipple the upper part of the handle like you've done. Great idea.

Great! Well, when I go backpacking I usually just wear this on my belt or on the backpack's waist strap. If you wanted to, though, you could drill the holes in the sheath, but not use paracord and instead use zipties to lash the sheath to MOLLE webbing or any other connection points you might have on your gear. Whatever you end up doing, good luck, and if you find an interesting way to do it, please share! Have a good one!

Thanks again! Love your video by the way. specially the one where you used horse radish sauce for a patina on your Kukri. will look forward to more videos from you.

+Nathaniel Dujunco hey bud. if u just use an axe occasionally for batoning, better get an x5 with u. its more than good enough for any task, except batoning hard wood. will save u some grams and important space in ur backpack.

You could do some file work on the blade, that would look cool :) Just a suggestion!

I do not understand why fiskars does not make a belt carry sheath. We have to figure out how to make one. Thank you for the video. I agree it is a good idea to salvage the plastic sheath. But how to carry it on your belt is a problem. There is a hole at the handle end, but that is probably for paracord to put on your wrist. I would rather have the hatchette head on my belt and not slapping my leg.

Well, here, I showed how to carry the hatchet head-up. The paracord on the sheath is for attaching the protective covering to your belt (you just feed the belt through the back loops). So it would not be slapping around too bad. Thanks for watching and commenting!

That's some pretty cool modifications man, I really like how you did the handle, very cool. Maybe you can do a "how to" video on that?! :-) God Bless.

:) Or better yet, a "how not to" video! While learning how to stipple, I messed up one project and burnt a hole in my shirt too! Hahaha! May God bless you too, brother!

hey buddy, sweet idea about the sheath. though i dont wanted to loose the handle ability, i just placed a cord around the top of the handle and put a carabiner in there. will think about that again, too. its not optimal. the other thing i modified: i sprayed the whole axe and sheath in signal orange, except the axe head and orange handle. looks terrible colorwise, but who cares. i wanna find it on the ground. its almost impossible finding the sheath on the ground if its dark. no matter if gras or earth. next mod ill do (again): put anti slippery tape over certain areas, except the rubber area. and i will wrap a double layer of (this time light blue) 4 mm paracord over the upper part of the axe -> from right under the axe head down to 1/3 of the axe. this is important in like batoning or when using as a hammer, as often u will hit the handle in the upper part. also u can grab the handle better and more secure then. i like how u present things here, very sympathic. keep it up.

+aaah beeeh i forgot: also resharpened the blade to a convex edge to better baton. i guess its not making that much difference, but i like convex edges.

Fine at first glance, but… an axe belt sheath without ANY rotation really doesn't work well sitting down on the ground, does it. Now the axe (with naked edge=unprotected edge) must be removed as you must else open up your belt to remove the sheath. Doesn't sound practical at all. Shame that it is not showed with a belt.
