When Hokuto No Ken (Ken il Guerriero) came out in Italy it was revered as a masterpiece, and to this day my father still remembers it with fondness. By the way, you got the Italian pronunciation almost perfectly, not bad.

did you know "north star" in the title isn't really the north star(Polaris)? hokutou actually means "big dipper", which is the seven brightest stars of the constellation Ursa Major(the big bear). And the north star can be found by using the big dipper as a guide

His voice (Mike's) reminds me of Jamieson Price's a little. He voiced Sergeant Madd in the Manga Entertainment dub of the TV series. Really wished that they’d dubbed more. Jamieson I can imagine would’ve been a good fit for Souther.

Other than the anime/manga, i suggest you should also check the band that made the opening and ending themes, the mighty Crystal King! One of the very best rock/pop band of the 70s and 80s, with two phenomenal singers. And yes in Italy Fist Of The North Star was HUGE. For everyone that grew up during the 80s and 90s like me it was the holy grail of the animes. That, City Hunter, Saint Seiya, Patlabor, Lupin and so on, those were the days. I also have the movie on original VHS, the only non-censored version.

The Italian version of the movie is the least censored version probably because it was one of the first versions to be released internationally, hell, probably even before the Home Video release of the japanese version because by then they were already having trouble with the film's graphic content, censoring the more upsetting shots like all close-ups of the exploding heads, however it must've been a multiple step process because while the Italian version has the warp/blur censorship, it doesn't has any of the ''color filter'' type of censorship, meaning that they were received a ''in the works'' print of the film rather than the fully censored version.

I actually almost like the physique seen with teenage Kenshiro more, I've never seen those early works before. He looked more like Bruce Lee in that version (which might be why they shyed away from it), and I always felt that it's funny that Kenshiro is so bulky, but so technique and speed oriented. At this point his size is a part of the HnK look, so I wouldn't want it to change, it's just interesting to see what might have been.

Did you know? Hokuto No Ken is a double entendre. Ken means fist in japanese, while also being Kenshiro shortened. Also, Hokuto actually means the "Big Dipper" which is the asterism from which the scar shape is taken.

I'm italian. Name one really violent italian movie, cause for the life of me, I can't think of one. the bloodiest movies I've watched are either Quentin Tarantino's movies, Hollywood war movies, or american and japanese horror. Italy movies usually feature social themes ( when they are not stupid comedies), but they are movies for all the family.

It has to do with stock keeping. Toei can be quite a douche when it comes to their anime shows which are old and being heavily scrutinized for their low quality and unpopular.

This episode was more like Did you know manga but I enjoyed it, even though I knew most of it. It also should be pointed out that Tetsuo Hara didn't like the anime and at one point came down to Toei studio and complained personally after that "shooting villains out of a canon" episode.

北斗 in the Japanese Title is short for 北斗七星, or Northern 7 stars, meaning the "Big Dipper" the Big Dipper has huge importance in Oriental Astrology. So it's NOT "North Star" (polaris). Theres is also counterpart called 南斗六星 "Southern 6 stars" which is mostly stars of Sagittarius.

Actually they already did... look up the Legends of the True Savior/Shin Kyuuseishu Densetsu series. It was a pretty damn good series of Movies and OVA that expanded upon the series. Sadly it didn't remake all of it.

I mean FOTNS is too good not to have a modern adaptation. Not a reboot but a remake of the old series. I mean look at how the JoJo anime turned out. It was an extremely niche thing before the anime came out, now it's huge. I love FOTNS, but the original anime is pretty dated and is extremely slow and I feel like the new OVAs and movies don't do it justice.

No that would be JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders. Early JoJo was heavily influenced by FotNS, this includes the art style. However as the years have gone by there is very little in the series that resembles Fist of the North Star.

Malcom Alexander I knew FotNS inspired JoJo, it's just that a lot of the early stuff looks almost interchangeable with each other, from an outside observer. But yeah, overall different shows, especially with the newer and newest iterations. Have you seen the newest JoJo? It looks nice with it's over saturated colour. Is it a good first dive into JoJo?
