Im surprised at the amount of reactors who haven't had a more vivid reaction to Red Horizon, its a beautiful song, with a very very deep message and a stance that many in the metal scene simply aren't willing to risk putting out. It takes a lot of courage to take such a direct and brutally honest stance on a political issue, and make a well composed track to help vocalise that opinion! Plus the riffs and drumming are brilliant just to complete the package. It's my personal favourite on the album and in my Top 2 songs this year. An incredibly emotional song, one of those ones you just don't forget listening to.

It might be recency bias but I think this might be my favorite album by them. The riffs have more room to breath and are more melodic to my ears than a lot of their other stuff. The choruses on this album are their catchiest yet and that makes a difference to me. This album has been stuck in my head every since I heard it and feels very memorable. I might change my mind and like their other stuff more once the dust settles but my initial impressions are very positive.

The only negative thing I have to say about the album is that I think Hostage is the weakest song so it makes the first chunk of the album a little weaker. Not too much weaker but a tad bit and that matters. Once Red Horizon starts then the album hits it's stride and truly becomes incredible. Great stuff Fit For An Autopsy! Just another note but Joe's vocals sound so much like Randy Blythe's in many parts and I really like it. Maybe I just never heard it before but he's doing a lot of interesting stuff with his vocals on this album and it really works for me.

@@DoNotLookDownironically I think Hostage is one of the stronger songs, I love the stompy chunky intro riff, the chorus & the structure of the song as well as the solo. In fact I think it’s funny that this guy in his review liked all the songs that were traditional FFAA and not treading any new ground, whereas I found myself loving Lurch, The Silver Sun, Hostage and the title track rather than Lower Purpose which I find to be the weakest song by far.

@@DrewFortune97it would have been helpful if you said it in the video brother. Thing is, when you said you were “just here for the music man” that came across as dismissive. The lyrics are part of the music… the message is the music… that’s why the band wrote it. It obviously had an impact on you given the goosebumps… I don’t expect any music reactor to touch on geopolitics, but if the music itself is delving into the geopolitics it warrants an acknowledgment that it is part of the music you’re reacting to (not two separate things and that you’re here for one not the other). Like you, I wasn’t huge on Hostage when it first dropped as a single. It had me a bit nervous for the album release because FFAA are a favorite band for me and I didn’t want to be disappointed. The whole album blew me away though. So many jaw dropping moments for me and the energy is so high throughout- especially compared to their last couple albums. This may be my favorite from them. You might just need to spend some more time with some of these tracks. And maybe you were a bit distracted during some of the big moments? For instance, that title track has one of the best choruses they’ve ever written in my opinion but I think you were too focused on typing down your thoughts from the intro/verse to properly digest it. Could be wrong though. Killer reaction regardless!

I find it ironic that you stated you felt like the second half of the album was weaker where they were trying new things with Red Horizon, Lurch, the title track & The Silver Sun. Meanwhile the songs you dig don’t do anything new at all for the genre and are by the book FFAA songs. They still have their place and which is why I feel like this might be their best paced/varied album but you ended up disliking most of the songs where they were trying to branch out a bit and expand on some newer elements.

Im sorry, but there is nothing in the four songs you mentioned that they havent done before. Its just that this time around its actually not as good. The closer is not far off last album's or napalm dreams. Everything about that song is S tier but they ruined the whole vibe by the way they transitioned from the callout to the chant part which is dissonant in bad way. Red Horizon is Black Mammoth just not as groovy and a weak breakdown. Title track is kinda weird. opening riff gives me Higher Level Of Hate vibes, but just slowly gets less heavy and the solo does not match the vibe of the song. Most of the solos on this album are like that. Lurch reminds me a lot of Empty Still. The intro builds up this very unsettling atmosphere that never really pays off until the breakdown which is probably the best off the album. But all the middle parts are just okay. And Lust also sounds a lot like a lot of their other songs: In Shadows, Heads Will Hang, ... . And I almost love this song if it wasnt for whatever that solo is near the end. Like I dont get what new thing they tried in those songs that they havent done better before. Except the breakdown of Lurch is S++
@WindyCityNick
@WindyCityNick 2 ай бұрын
@@ClownWorldEnjoyer Man I couldn't disagree more. Any band is going to have similarities unless they completely genre swap into new territory, but I'd rather hear songs like Lurch, The Silver Sun, TNTI...songs like Lower Purpose tread absolutely no new ground and are in place for energy/mosh/gym bros, whereas in those other songs while having similarities to songs on past albums, attempts new atmospheres, vocal techniques & at times constraint where it's needed. I think Red Horizon is better than Black Mammoth, TNTI while not as heavy as HLOH, conveys the albums message really well with a strong chorus and badass riff. I don't listen to this band for breakdowns & sole brutality, for me it's the message, the atmosphere, the grooves & amazing songwriting. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
@ClownWorldEnjoyer
@ClownWorldEnjoyer 2 ай бұрын
@@WindyCityNick Trying new atmospheres is very vague. In my opinion, not a single song on this album matches the atmosphere created in songs like Ghosts in the River, Napalm Dreams, or Swing the Axe. And its not for a lack of trying. Its just that the song structures are not as well done as the previous albums. What I love about FFAA is that every song feels very cohesive and every little detail in it serves a purpose. But this album is just not that. It feels like too much trying new things for the sake of it and not enough of "does this fit the vibe or theme of the song". Even songs like AHAH despite being ridiculously heavy, have this unnerving atmosphere that just feels like it wants to drag you down to hell. And its fine that you dont listen to this band for the breakdowns or the dummy thick heaviness. But the thing is, Red Horizon has a breakdown. So why not make it good? I'll admit that the lyrics are top tier like always and there are some very groovy riffs scattered around. But the whole package is just not as well made as the previous 4 albums. There are songs with some of the best stuff they have ever written but they also have some very questionable decisions in them. The solo to Lust for severed head is exactly that. I just cant listen to that song if the harmonies during the solo sound like its a fucking circus song. Lastly, Black Mammoth is the song that made me absolutely fall in love with this band and Ill fight you to death defending it vs Red Horizon :D

At first I liked what I heard but after couple of listens I feel like the songs got old too quick because there isn't just enough experimentation. I think after this album it would be a great time to really experiment more. Just like Drew, I had a few standout tracks that went to the playlist but other than that very samey. I like The Silver Sun because it's more melodic an proggy and I kinda wish they went towards that songwriting direction a little bit more. The Man That I Was Not from the previous album was also kinda like that and that song is in my top 10 by them overrall.

I'll be honest. When I love a band, they can do no wrong, so I'm potentially an unreliable person when I have any opinion on their music... However, I'll come right out and say this: Oh What the Future Holds...wasn't their best work. MAYBE I'M INSANE...but to me, it just wasn't. I think The Sea of Tragic Beasts is THE greatest deathcore album of ALL TIME, and for an album like OWTFH to come after that, it just didn't attract me as much as TSOTB. That being said, THIS album had a LOT riding on it, and a LOT of pressure to be better for me than OWTFH. And...it fucking succeeded. This album is the most perfect example of a band using ALL of their past work and blending it together to make a new sound. This record sounds EXACTLY like Absolute Hope, Absolute Hell to Oh, What the Future Holds all blended together to make the perfect baby, that ALSO somehow sounds completely brand new. I don't know what they put into this album, but this is closest thing to crack I've heard in a WHILE.

This album was a major letdown for me compared to previous albums. I think the main thing is that it's missing the coherent flow throughout each song and the entire album. It's also missing the relentless catchiness of their instrumentals. Oh What the Future Holds is just banger after banger where every guitar element is memorable and catchy and the choruses stick in your head while ALSO being heavy throughout. This album has moments but there's probably only two or three songs that do it end-to-end. Lurch and Weaker Wolves are the major standouts for me. To me this album just felt confusing. It had all the elements that should make it good but it's mostly just forgettable.

I personally feel like the album is amazing on a second listen, but I will say that the songs feel out of order, on their own they fit in really well (I dislike hostage), I think it better then the sea of tragic beasts, worse then oh what the future holds and similar in almost every way to the great collapse. I definitely needed 2 listens to love the album, on the first listen it was a bit disappointing, the 2nd listen pieced it all together. I think the order of songs were wrong imo.
