Fitbit reccomends wearing your watch two fingers away from your wrist for an accurate heartbeat reading, whereas with your test both Fitbit watches where way too far from the reccomended placement. Maybe the reason for the innacurate reading? Just a thought. Great video though.
@wearablewhisperer3 жыл бұрын
You might find this video interesting (where I test different wrist placements): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpioh6yLap2Bm68 I have tested in multiple placements over multiple years, and I personally have never gotten reliably accurate heart rate at high intensities when walking or hiking with any Fitbit. I can get reliably accurate peak heart rate when indoor spinning with most recent Fitbits (no matter what the placement on my wrist is...). I used to be a Fitbit employee, so I am very aware of the placement recommendation. Just FYI, I always personally do several tests in different placements and locations before I even give any accuracy statements (unlike some other "reviews" that have only had the device for a day or two). In a "to the point" video like this one, I just can't include every test that led me to my conclusion. I'm glad you liked the video 😊

Really informative video. Thank you. To tell you the truth, I'd go for an Apple watch in a heartbeat if I would be willing to switch from my Samsung Galaxy to iPhone but no way. I'm looking on Amazon and the Versa 3 is only $20 less than the Sense. Also, I don't know if the deficiencies mentioned are hardware or software issues. During my career in IT, I had to make that determination countless times, but I shouldn't have to be put in that position for a $300 (on sale for $199) watch. If it's not hardware based, then a firmware and/or software update might make these issues get better or even go away. I would love to know what Fitbit knows about these issues. It may well be the hardware is causing these inaccuracies in which case they will never be fixed. If Fitbit manufactured these using cheap sensors to improve their margins, then you're stuck with these issues for the duration of your ownership. Who wants to throw the dice for $199/$300?
@wearablewhisperer3 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. I can almost guarantee that Fitbit will not correct any of these issues with firmware updates. Their (and most other company’s) M.O. is to provide updates in the form of next years iteration (though Fitbit hasn’t seemed to yet crack the code on accurate heart rate for me at least; Apple and Garmin have both improved significantly in the last few years). If it helps to know, I do have a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 ordered and I’ll try to at least compare its heart rate accuracy and ease of use/features to the Apple Watch and maybe Fitbit and publish some videos ideally before Christmas. I don’t have a Samsung phone though and I’ll have to use my seldom-used Android phone I bought for these purposes (since the galaxy watch 4 doesn’t work with iPhones). Good luck in your search!

Bruh just saying... For the bpm test, you had the garmin and apple at the right spot where the watch is supposed to be worn ie 1-2 fingers below wrist bone but both the fitbits you have worn way below the recommendation. That should affect the reading right? Do a swap and check if it makes a difference.

@@wearablewhisperer thanks for that I appreciate it and I figured you would have tried various configurations to ensure accuracy and of course to prevent trolls (read "Me") from nitpicking. I've read that there was an update done recently and whether thats addressed it I have no idea, the detailed update notes simply states "bug fixes", which I find very annoying (I like to know what issues have been addressed, just laziness I presume). I do think that for the average user who's wanting to exercise and lose weight they're fine (along with Apple watches and other wearables) but for hardcore athletes who need accuracy than you can't beat the Polar, a chest strap will always win hands down every time. As for me, just handed my Versa 2 in after 5 days as it decided it didn't want to charge every now and again, so now I'm waiting on a new Sense arriving and at 60 years old, overweight and lets be honest, quite slovenly this should help me with motivation and tracking after a lifestyle change (now exercising 1.5 hours a day, 6 days a week and have been for 3 months) If my heart rate hits 160 plus I hope my companions have a defibrillator on them. So I don't have a heart condition, let alone any health problems. Do I need those features in the Sense that the Versa 3 doesn't have? Or could I get the Versa 3?

They don’t really justify the cost if you don’t need the extra features (which it sounds like you don’t).

You can, however, all of the data (like steps and heart rate) is calibrated for wearing it on top, so your data may be inaccurate.

Fun fact if you have a pixel and have the latest software update in the google fit app you can use you finger placed over the camera in a well lit area to get a heart rate that is as accurate as an apple watch series 6 or even a medical grade heart rate tracker. This test has been done by 'In depth tech reviews' if you want to check it out.

This method of taking an “on-demand” heart rate via your phones camera has been around before smartwatches got popular. It is a great option for on-demand use, but most people who use their watches to track their workouts want a continuous measurement, so the phone camera option isn’t the same category for comparison.

@@wearablewhisperer I have the TicWatch Pro 3 I have mixed feelings about it. Its pretty good overall! But I wish the smarts of this watch were in something like the Fitbit sense that would be amazing. For now I thinks it the closest thing I can get to a pixel watch lol do you have a Fitbit sense I would love to know how you like it!?
@wearablewhisperer3 жыл бұрын
I have the Fitbit Sense and I primarily wear it for sleep tracking. The heart rate isn’t accurate for me for the workouts I do most often, and that also affects the accuracy of other metrics like active zone minutes. I also don’t personally find the stress management score or EDA Scan app to correlate with my stress levels, so they are not useful features for me. I do love the battery life and quick charging, but I prefer an Apple Watch for my use cases (except for sleep tracking).

What about oxygen saturation/SpO2 readings? My instructions say I need to download a separate app from their “Gallory” for my Fitbit Sense. Where might the Gallery be? Is it just an app I can get from my iPhone apps?
@wearablewhisperer3 жыл бұрын
It’s in the Fitbit App. Start from your main dashboard (the one that shows your steps, sleep, etc). Click on the icon in the upper left corner. That should bring you to your account page. Find Sense in your list of devices and tap on it. Then you should see “Apps” on the next page. Tap on that. You can then tap on “All Apps” and search for any app

The ECG app can only tell you if your heart rhythm shows signs of Afib. The chart is more for sharing with your doctor (if you do show signs of afib).

If you don’t need the ECG app, I would recommend the Fitbit Versa 3 over the Sense. You may also want to look into the Garmin Venu Sq Music (depending on the music provider you use, you may be able to download music to your watch and not have to have your phone connected to listen back-but you will need Bluetooth headphones). You could also look into the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2. It would also have more features than Fitbit and potentially allow you to download music to your watch (and control playback). Fitbit does have the most accurate sleep tracking (compared to Garmin and Samsung), and Fitbit also has the best companion app. Maybe take a look at these 3 and let me know if you have any questions? I’m happy to help if I can 😊

I can only report my experience, and yours may be different. If you really want one, I’d recommend buying from a store that has a good return policy, or directly from Fitbit (then you are more likely to be able to return after using, if the heart rate isn’t accurate for you).

Yeah I notice the same thing with the heart rate when i'm running uphill. Then I look at the watch and it says my HR is like 100 bpm lol.
@wearablewhisperer3 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty sad, especially since Fitbit was the first to have on-wrist heart rate. And now that active (zone) minutes are based on heart rate, it makes that health stat inaccurate, too 😔
@wearablewhisperer3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is possible that it could be accurate for one person, but not another; I believe that’s why I stated that it’s possible your experience will be different and that’s why I recommend buying from a place that will allow you to return it if it doesn’t meet your accuracy expectations (which are subjective also, meaning some people don’t care if the heart rate is up to 10bpm off). I try very hard not to make inaccurate statements (I realize products can improve over time, too), but heart rate is one thing that has never been reliably accurate for me with any Fitbit (and I’ve worn them all), and I know that can be a deal-breaker for people, so I wanted to at least let people know it might not be accurate for them (because I’ve heard from more people that it isn’t accurate, and this newest device is supposed to have a “new and improved” heart rate sensor-which is do think is improved, but it’s still not reliable, meaning it can finally give me a reading of 170bpm and above, but it doesn’t reliably stay there or get there every time it should). Apple Watch 5 and 6 are extremely accurate heart rate for me, and I haven’t heard anyone saying it’s not accurate for them, so that what I base my recommendation on.
