Great to see you back at it. Would love to see a recap of the trip. Highs, lows, what you would do differently next time. Commentary on the racing, how it compares to racing back home and what can we do to improve our local racing scene. It looked like so much fun!!!

agree with you. 100% vo2peak is definitely trainable, my first year of running I recorded a vo2peak of 57 ml/kg/min and a couple years later got 72 ml/kg/min, I probably won't get much higher but my lactate threshold numbers have been improving gradually

Vo2 max also obviously changes massively if you can lose 3-4 kg
@XX-is7ps2 жыл бұрын
Its a flawed metric, it would be more accurate if calculated against lean body mass rather than total body mass. In isolation it means next to nothing, since it doesn't consider other physioligcal factors such as fractional utilisation. As Jesse points out, basing decisions just on vo2max is a pretty bad idea. Its what they call a "necessary but insufficient" factor - that is a high vo2max power is important but its not sufficient on its own to guarantee high performance.
@nerocoaching2 жыл бұрын
Yeh true. My suspicion is they actually want the power data, but asking for riders power data is pointless because it could all be made up or inaccurate. So telling riders they need to get a VO2max test gives them a better chance the power they are seeing is accurate. But they are chasing their tails anyway because there's limited value in a one off test...
@mrwezbo2 жыл бұрын
@@nerocoaching Seems strange, couldn't they just go through his strava/intervals/TP to quickly look?
@nerocoaching2 жыл бұрын
Yes but there’s no guarantee his power meter is accurate (it is, but they can’t assume that)
@mrwezbo2 жыл бұрын
@@nerocoaching What would happen then though? They are impressed with his fake power, he goes overseas to the team and gets absolutely smoked on the first and subsequent rides - seems like he (or anyone that would do this) is only cheating themselves in reality? Is this a common issue team scouts see?
@zwtvchannel2 жыл бұрын
While testing has its merits and very good for certain things VO2 really isn’t the b-all end-all for performance. My VO2 is ok but my threshold abilities a helleva lot better.
@XX-is7ps2 жыл бұрын
Vo2max acts as a cap for threshold power as a percentage (fractional utilisation) so it does hinder your threshold development to a certain extent

dope video! Is the garmin estimate close to accurate? mine currently says 75 so i'd like to believe it is

I saw a study that says if it estimates between 45-55 it's quite accurate, but above or below that, it's not accurate at all

@@LoranMaes Very interesting! can you tell me the name of the study? ill be doing a vo2 max test soon so Ill be able to verify myself
Cross bike! 👌 #crossiscoming breh! I now use the 1 min ramp test to get a decent FTP estimate of MAP. Have gone to a lab before where the ramps were 6 minutes. Can take 45 to 60 minutes to finish that test, you'll be dead for days. Results in racing > test results 👈👍

Do they want to see any lactate testing ?
@chriss69712 жыл бұрын
Do the teams ask for ideology of the riders to give an indication of what drives them or is it all physical aspects they are after? Seeing as genes expressed are dependant on how you live what you do it seems changeable imo.
@nerocoaching2 жыл бұрын
Yes most teams interview riders (the good teams at least) before making any decisions, they need to fit will with the ethos of the team

Having a test done can also find out how your body uses fuel ie fat/carbs which can be useful.
@nerocoaching2 жыл бұрын
Interesting to see, I question how useful it is for road cycling though. Fuel utilisation is a firstly a reflection of general aerobic endurance (experienced endurance athletes overall will have higher fat oxidation regardless of diet) and in the short term it can be massively influenced by diet, so it's a tough one to make use of. Having lactate tested in the sub-maximal steps would be useful if we planned on repeating the test down the track
