It may come to a surprise that "leg calisthenics" is not simply forgotten , It instead has got different names like sprinting, jumping things are actually leg calisthenics if you see it closely.

@@randybowman The real question is, does it count as calisthenics if you do a deadlift motion with no weight? Meaning deadlifts are also weighted calisthenics? By that logic pretty much all closed-chain movements are calisthenics.

calisthenics performers tend to ignore legs or just straight up don't train them cause the extra lower body mass will hinder them in performing all the tricks we see in videos. it really depends on what you're training calisthenics for, if you train just for fitness then you shouldn't neglect the lower body but if you're trying to perform tricks then it's necessary to have the correct upper/lower body proportion to perform said tricks. if your legs are too heavy that you can't stabilize them with your upper body/core muscles then you'll most likely not be able to perform the tricks and you might end up injuring yourself in the process too.

Calisthenics is bodyweight strength. not "upperbody bodyweight strength". If you only train upperbody calisthenics you are by definition a specialist and incomplete. Sprinting is probably the ultimate expression of bodyweight strength all things considered
@IsaacMorgan98
@IsaacMorgan98 5 ай бұрын
As far as strength is concerned, no, sprinting is not the ultimate expression of strength. A sprinter is actually remarkably weak compared to a strength athlete of equal size. I think people think strength and power and the same thing but they really aren't. Strength is the ability to withstand mechanial load or to keep moving regardless of mechanical load, power is your ability to display what strength you have quickly. Sprinting is a demonstration of power, they can demonstrate what they have very fast but if you put a strongmans 450kg yoke ontop of their shoulders they would simply collapse either immediately or as soon as they tried to take a step. That being said a sprinter is generally much more powerful than a strongman as their able to display what strength they have so much faster.
@harry.calisthenics4115
@harry.calisthenics4115 5 ай бұрын
@@IsaacMorgan98 Its pretty easy to dismantle a strawman isn't it. Keyword - "BODYWEIGHT strength". One of the highest mechanical loads you can generate with your bodyweight only is during footstrike in maximum speed running. Otherwise yes I understand the strength/power distinction and of course lifters are better at what they specialise in.
@IsaacMorgan98
@IsaacMorgan98 5 ай бұрын
@harry.calisthenics4115 ahhh sorry, I misread and thought you only said bodyweight strength for upper body and not when talking about sprinting. If restricted to bodyweight only then yes, it's probably sprinting however that is very restrictive of human capacity

The thing that has helped me the most for regular dips and now ring dips, by far, are executing the negatives as controlled as possible, and doing only sets of negatives. Of course there's a whole plethora of things to take into account like core activation, arm squeezing, etc, but as long as you do the negatives consistently, I feel they are they key to many many calisthenics exercises.

@paulmarshall9189
@paulmarshall9189 6 ай бұрын
The purpose of strength training is to make changes in your body that increase your sporting capacity. That capacity could be measured in the training movements themselves or in other movements. But obviously it doesn't make sense to change your body in ways that work against your performance goals. All movements have both strength and technique components, both in training and performance. Some sports (powerlifting, for example) are primarily trained by developing strength in the actual performance movements. And other sports (climbing, for example) are trained partly with strength movements that are much easier technically than the performance movements.

Then you'd be able to do normal pushups. After that you could perhaps do diamond pushups, pike pushups, decline pushups. You could increase you range of motion, pause at the bottom etc. This is better than just increasing your reps, which would increase your endurance but won't do much for your strength and hypertrophy.
