For me it's all about patience,which you don't need for weights,you can train with the same weights or a little bit less when you are not feeling good,but when you have to hold a planche and you're not feeling good,you can be twice weaker,like going from 120kg bench press to 80kg in a bad workout..
@egeabali11 ай бұрын
also it is annoying how body weight fluctiations during the day can affect the workout, making it really hard to see if u are progressively overloading.

The measurability of calisthenics can be cumbersome. The reward of mastering your body is worth it.

Lifting weights is easy, maintaing a form is harder
@miroslavzicha9911 ай бұрын
It's easier to progress due to simply adding weight + ridiculously easier for consistent overloading in isolation exercises but you should not dismiss it as easy in general - absolute strength of weightlifters will humble you... especially if you are an aesthetic lightweight guy.

I call “lifting weights” without proper form “moving weight around”.
@NeoArmstrongJetArmstrongCannon11 ай бұрын
For me it's all in the open-chain vs close-chain movement. The bench press and the push-up are essentially the same exercise, but moving your body through space, I find, is much more taxing on the nervous system and I feel way more tired after push-ups than bench.

2 of my fav athletes right here! Thanks for the tips guys. Adam, your joint prep is the best! I developed golfers elbow/medial epicondylitis after trying weighted chin ups with not enough warm up and not enough REST. I gave up on weights for a while and now use bands to do high chin ups to develop better strength across the full ROM, and will eventually incorporate weights when my body gives the OK.

Because it is harder to make things easier for a noob. You can set the lat pulldown machine to very low weight but a pullup is hard to do from day one, even with bands. It is also extremely difficult for fat people as you are essentially starting with weighted calisthenics. One the plus side, you get strong AF. I worked my way up to 12 dips as a snorlax(133kg) and the chest and tricep gains were insane.
@FitnessFAQs11 ай бұрын
The learning curve is definitely higher for calisthenics vs gym. With that said, once you understand the basic principles (bands, eccentrics, progressions) it's not too bad.
@nonhan180111 ай бұрын
im a skinny guy trying to get into calisthenics and i want to eat a surplus while training for this reason lol. I know if i can some weight steadily(not to a ridiculous degree), my strength will go up as long as I keep training.
@miroslavzicha9911 ай бұрын
Big dudes with good relative strength are strong AF... agreed on that. Alex Leonidas recently talked about meaning of absolute loads for hypertrophy - basicly - 130kg guy doing bodyweight dips equals 50kg weighted for 80kg guy - both are said to experience equal gains. IMO not many people realize that 😅
@miroslavzicha9911 ай бұрын
@@nonhan1801For muscle building - the training is most important then there's diet. But you might want to learn a thing or two about it by yourself... in short hit your macros and some degree of caloric surplus without eating fastfood every other day. "Natural Hypertrophy" covered the topic of bulking and how to avoid stupid mistakes in his video... I think it was called "My nightmare bulk". Hope this helped a little... any feedback appretiated.

I kind of gave up on the planche, and the back lever is definitely a no-go for me. Shattered my elbow years ago in my late teens and left with limited mobility in my right arm. The stronger my core gets and scapula, the more I start to wonder.

@@DevinsCalisthenics indeed. In the meantime, gonna keep upping the core, scapula, and shoulder strength. The planche is anatomically and physically out of my range, but handstand push-ups are an achievable goal.

Both of you are great! Your Vids helped me a lot, i achieved so much in a small time (in about 8months - slow muscle up, bent arm planche, straight arm straddle planche) and im 35! I was doin breakdance when i was 11 but i guess muscle/joint memory can last even that long.
@Timmy_yuskaitis11 ай бұрын
I think people really underestimate the difference of form and maintenance: Pseudo Planche pushups require a strict attention to detail and centimeters make the greatest difference yet, the weight is the same. Or hop on the smith machine in the same position and rack plates for the strength aspect, lacking the balance factor. Weights are easier and many people naturally follow the path of least resistance. Both provide their health benefits reguardless
@JoseRivera-rl3qv11 ай бұрын
True but in my case I'm not willing to pay for a gym and now I have found basics around the basics exercises to increase the utility long term for strength and hypertrophy, so I'm now pushing my limits with pull ups and dips and then once I get reps I'm doing them weighted to progressive overload them to get everything else easy (skills)

Depends how you define harder. Calisthenics requires more joint conditioning, coordination etc but so does lifting weights with a perfect form to some extent. If we are looking just from raw power output i dont really see the difference. gravity vs body weight or gravity vs weights is the same from a muscle perspective. For me the main difficulty is body weight to strength ratio. when weightlifting you dont have to be as concerned with your total body weight.

Been doing calisthenics for over 1,5 years and never warmed up. I believe it's really difficult to injure yourself since your whole body is in action and stronger muscles compensate for the weak links naturally (Not an expert, but this is what I think).

If lifting weights is easy then you need to lift more weight. Calisthenics isn't hard. You don't even train your legs. Leg day is hard.
@chaosdragon658811 ай бұрын
Advance calisthenics skills is harder such as planche, Maltese, straight arm muscle up on rings, handstand push ups, etc than lifting weights. Barbell back squat is a form of weighted calisthenics, pistol squat, dragon squat is for leg day for calisthenics Heck! Even with weighted calisthenics is harder such as +120 kg pull up than a full stack lat pulldowns, +200 kg dips than a 200kg bench press, + 60kg bar muscle up than 200 kg clean and jerk.
@chaosdragon658811 ай бұрын
I can deadlift 200kg for 5 reps but can't pull up with added 120 kg, my max bench press is 205 kg, but can't even get a rep with parallel bars dip with an added 200 kg, now you see the point.
@chaosdragon658811 ай бұрын
And yeah even with those big numbers with deadlift and bench, I can't even do the planche and Maltese and don't even start to mention on rings skills those kinds of what a rings gymnast do, I can only hold front lever for like a measly 5 seconds, and 3 muscle ups for 3 reps with bad form, a wall handstand push ups. So yeah think about it
