I think it's an okay channel, but overrated. The tutorials are often missing important aspects for beginners and even intermediates. Moreover, his videos often don't specify which skill level the movement is. This particular video is a good example. I think he rarely works with people who are new to the hobby.

learning the skin the cat just now!! this is what I like about calisthenics... you progress to a different exercise which is a qualitative measure. And once you accomplish a skill its like you did what you thought couldn't be done with your body aka the impossible. you feel so great... at the gym you just progress through weights doing the same thing over and over again which can be quite boring

How is doing the same lifting patterns any more boring than doing the same calisthenics patterns?

What's funny is how regular weight-lifting misses those "connecting" muscles that allow a person to do such skin the cats so easily. You can do all the rows, situps, pullups etc in the world and still not be able to make this exercise look as easy as what this young man does. It's those "interconnecting" muscles that are the weak link and we're only as strong as our weakest link. Gymnastics is the best form of exercise. It gives you control over your body that just weight-lifting doesn't do.
@wallesdrop30262 жыл бұрын
true but as a bodybuilder those muscles are useless. because they are training for aesthetic not for skills

Look out dominik sky's channel begginer to advanced videos, he shows a lot of variation of pull,push and core, and you can do archer push ups,diamond,decline and pike push ups to be able to do ring dips, or practice the ring support with external rotation and if you can't do it in dip position do it in push up position that worked for me 👍

I think an even harder progression could be to go from front lever to back lever (instead of going from active hang to german hang)
@ibaikintana9086 жыл бұрын
marcos krupiczer in fact it's easier (at least in my personal opinion and experience). The reduced range of motion on the 180° version makes the exercise less fatiguing than the 360° one. Another point is that the time under tension is also not that much. I reccomend you to try both (on a progression you are able to) and feel the difference😅.

I enjoyed the video. One question you did not address is hand position. Does it matter if you keep your hands fixed (as it appears in the video) in a pronated grip? Or is there a benefit or risk for the shoulder if you transition into a supinated grip as you pull through from the front lever to the back lever?
@Greg_Chock6 жыл бұрын
I thought skin the cat was something really advanced that I wouldn't be able to attempt for a couple of years, but the School of Calisthenics guys showed how you can start doing it with rings set low so that you can push yourself up at the beginning and use your feet to support yourself at the end position. I do it like that at the end of my pull session for the shoulder mobility and to start build straight arm strength. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGG3gpmZndKerM0m5s
