Two dead bodies? Who is the killer? Does the Silver Doe killer tie into the Iceland mystery?
@happytreefriend2619 Жыл бұрын
What if Bill isn’t dead? I can’t shake off the idea, that Darby is some kind of android and the whole scenario is just set up to test her. When they met at the dinner table, he acted rather distant and cold, but when he was „dying“ he smiled at her, as if he recognised her?! The way he smiled, when they met at the bar for the first time. Andy said, Ray is a combination of two programs. Maybe Darby didn’t survive back then in the basement, when they confronted the silver doe killer or she fell in a coma or something and Andy saved her consciousness by combining it with technology - remember „the hand, that feeds you“. Also the scene when she was seeing everyone wearing a mask, that looked like a visual bug, like a malfunction. In addition red symbolises technology on the show - she wears pink hair, so maybe she’s still part human, but also part AI. That also fits with Andy’s phrasing „alternative intelligence“ instead of artificial intelligence. She’s not completely artificial, but also more than a human. „Is anyone normal here? - No, not even you.“ that statement by Ray aligns perfectly with the idea, that she’s not 100% human too. Zoomer stating they are closest regarding the age, was maybe pointing towards the fact, that she got „reborn“. And the way Andy interacts with her: „What do you know about Disney? Do you notice a metallic taste?“ As if he’s taking to a lab experiment. My question though: Darby lost her headphones, when she was watching bill die from outside the window. Her headphones and the bloody copy of her book under the chair were gone the next day. Who took them and why? Finally, just wanted to add I enjoy watching your recaps and you have a really soothing voice :)

Ray is supposed to see things incredibly literal. But when Darby asks him if anyone here is normal, he responds “no not even you”. What is considered normal to an AI. Why did he respond to that question. Also I think the board in the kitchen that Darby was using to write down room numbers said that Rohan had a peanut allergy. Certain alcoholic beverages can be deadly with that allergy and we see a flask on Rohan’s desk with liquid spilling out where he had been drinking before stumbling out of his room and dying.

I’m obsessed with this show! Love hearing the breakdowns and theories from this channel. After I watched episode 3(twice😊) looked for you …listening today while Thanksgiving meal prep is awesome! I said wow maybe to this is Darby processing Bills death from the past but then I can’t make sense of seeing the victim who got away from Silver Doe Killer where she says they were her grandmothers earrings and that the buried woman in the concrete was the first victim… it gets fuzzy for me.

One of my early theories was that Bill was killed in the basement--by the serial killer. Who is Darby's dad. This caused Darby to repress Bill's death, and her mind created the fantasy that Bill "left" her. If that's true, Andy may know the truth about Darby's repression of the truth; and has created an AI version of Bill at the Retreat to "trigger" Darby's mind, so Andy can discover who Bill's killer is. This is just one possibility of what's happening. There are several others that make just as much sense. This series is a Rubik's Cube.

I think Bill could be the Silver Doe killer. He purposely leaves a trail/clues to find. He also hangs out on message boards online to see if any sleuths are on the trail. He meets Darby online and joins her for the search. Maybe he finds it fun to watch someone try to solve his murder. Darby wears a red hoodie (little miss riding hood) and his art name is FANGS (big bad wolf). He also has an odd shaped scar maybe tattoo on his upper cheek (wound from car keys). We still don’t know that was the killer at the house. Bill and Lee could have made a plan for her to marry Andy, have a child then find a way to murder him or frame him for murder. She then gets the billions, revenge on men (for destroying her online reputation, she called the internet misogynistic). Bill purposely left clues/trail for Darby to follow which I bet will lead to Andy and a false accusation. I believe that Lee is still very active at hacking and controlling AI including Ray beneath Andy’s nose since she is supposed to be the best while playing innocent and that she doesn’t have time.

Also, Lee would be the perfect choice to have Zoomer accidentally kill Bill via VR headset or to frame his death since she is often up late at night with Zoomer. And Bill seems to have a disregard for humanity when he told Rohan that its ok if humanity perishes due to climate change. New species can be born from it. Seems like something a killer sociopath would say.

So I rewatched the first episode and just finished the third, and here are some things I noticed. Bill refused a drink with Darby telling me that he was sober at the time. I originally thought that Zoomer could be the product of Lee and an affair with Bill. I first thought that when I saw his hair color VS Andy's. When Zoomer was playing doctor with Bill Andy did seem pretty jealous. Now I wasn't sure as it seemed like it could have been a red herring. However the fact that in episode three Andy practically brings up Punnett squares when telling his hamster story. Darby thought that Andy's epiphany was about growing Ray's technology, but it also could have been a, "Wait why does my son not have dark hair" moment. Either way, that places more suspicion on Andy and Lee. Andy, for the obvious reasons and Lee maybe to protect what she has with Andy and a future filled with money for her and her child. There does, however, seem to be something going on behind the scenes. The call made to Darby, and the call said to have come from Darby were most likely the speech copying app we see in the first episode. So Oliver has helped cover things up in one way or another. Now that we know Bill is somewhat of an anti-establishment activist whom I assume was actively against AI with his latest performance artist work. In the first episode, we hear from one of Darbys' online friends that "Money like that always involves some dark shit." I believe that had to have been foreshadowing what's left to come. When I first watched the first episode I thought it was Odd that Ray didn't immediately call for help when Bill was in distress but while watching the hallways footage again we see Bill takes off his ring before entering the door. Now, that could mean a few things. Either Andy lied about knowing the morphines injection time. It also could mean Bill was wearing a different ring. We now know multiple characters are privy to things others aren't and that some guests are deeply critical of technology. The phone call Darby received made it sound like Rohan was about to reveal something right before he died. Of course, if that was just a speech copying app, it may be completely false or just a way to make it seem like Rohan died at a different time or place. Either way, some characters are aware of something happening with Andy's Technology that they have reservations about. I have a feeling the venture capitalist is one of those people. The smart city builder as well. Right now, my top two suspects are Lee and Sian. Ever since reading the title of the first episode, I guessed this show would be a gender reversal type of a modern Whodunit Noir. Bill the Homme Fatale, so I anticipate the the murderer is a woman. I think Lee for obvious reasons. Zoomer said his mom and dad are fighting. That could be for the obvious reasons. To protect a lie about his parentage. Or it could mean Bill or someone else might have been holding it over their heads whether it is true or not that he is a product of an affair. It could also just be straight up revenge murder. In the first episode, Bill asked Darby if she ever felt like looking for Lee. She replied that Lee doesn't need her help. That's also true about the present. So why is she asking for it. Why does she claim she doesn't have the password. I believe she could be trying to orchestrate Andy's death and using Darby as a way to get what she wants. The reason I don't trust Sian is because when they were on the plane the other guess asked her where they were heading and she said that her lips are sealed. So she must be closer to Andy and Lee than the others. She also basically tells Darby to end her investigation by saying don't bite the hand that could feed you. Referring to Andy. Many she needs money to fun her Lunar colonizing idea. I believe she Lu and Oliver are deffinatly some of the "Builders" It seems like this whole retreat is about how to fix climate change and Andy is hoping to build an Ark to fly away from the rising tides. Those three could easily be working together to colonize the moon with the few and not the many. Leaving most of the world to die off on Earth. I also think that shows that Andy was the one that invited her, not Lee. They are making him out to be a villain right away, and I know Brit Marlings writing is never so simple to figure out. He may have invited Darby because he loves true crime, likes her out of the box thinking, or is interested in what she can sniff out. I don't think that Lee invited her. She looked so shocked to see she was there in the first episode. I think Lee is up to something and also have a feeling Ray is a lot more dangerous than he seems. Or someone controlling Ray is. Whatever the secret Andy and others seem to be hiding clearly involves building cities. It's very interesting that he picked a cold, desolate place like Iceland to have his trial period. Even so, I don't think that is the right direction to look in. Just like a magic trick, they are getting us to look one way when their setting some else right in front of our eyes. My guess is Bill's murder was personal and not about whatever was going on with the morse code flashlights. While Rohans murder most likely was. He was off the grid anyway. No one would know he is missing. Bills murder just felt so personal maybe Lee was doing it for personal reasons, and Rohans was because she was trying to protect Andy. Or maybe their are multiple murders with multiple murderers. The way Darby solved The Silver Doe killer was by looking into the victims, not the suspects. I think that's where we should be looking as well. Anyway I'm sure I have some other ideas but I'm tired and about to go to bed.

I was thinking about that possibility that Zoomer is biologically Bill's. Since the timing overlapped, Zoomer is the 'right age' to be Bill's bio child. BUT. I don't know. Maybe Zoomer is truly Andy's. The hair color is similar to Lee, rather than either men... I think Lee might be the culprit...actually but with different motivation. She's keeping Darby close and 'befriends' her to kind of put a cover on herself. She might also is trying to point the finger at Andy (however, I don't think she meant to kill Bill, it may just be an accident, the 3 cups Bill ordered, made me think that Bill was about to host both Lee and Rohan and they have a plan to take down Andy, but sh1t went wrong). I think something is up with Andy and Lee's marriage. For some reasons, Andy seems rather 'controlling' (albeit, it's restrained in front of others) when it comes to Lee and Zoomer. I wonder if Lee wanted to get out of her 'prison' of a marriage but 'can't' due to Andy's reach and she's afraid of Andy even gaining 50-50 custody of Zoomer. The reason I thought that was due to how the married couple interacted with each other and personally, I've heard how some women have to preplan a lot to leave an abusive marriage when the partner is much powerful economically than they are. Just like this 'partnership.' So, if Andy is found to be/alleged to be the 'murderer,' not only his reputation is shot, making it hard for him to gain any custody of Zoomer, he may also end up in jail--poetic justice since he's been 'imprisoning' Lee all of these time...

Great recap & analysis/theories. I'm particularly intrigued by the notion that Bill is NOT the Good Guy that we are led to believe. Like you I found his actions creepy, and manipulative--from the first time he appeared (via computer) and IMO arrogantly "seduced" Darby by making her validate her ideas to him. Also, is Bill an advanced AI--that has been mated with a human body? Is that what happened to Zoomer, too? And, Lee? And is this what Andy is doing to everyone? Is this series less "And Then There Were None" and more "Frankenstein"? Has Andy brought Darby to Iceland/where-ever, to mind-fu*k her into AGREEING to be "mated" with AI...and Bill's "death" is the motivation for her to willingly agree to be altered, and become a half-human/half-AI. If so, another movie also comes to mind: Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Yes, the possibilities are endless. And, that what makes "A Murder at the End of the World" the BEST new series this year.

Hey! 1st, has anyone noticed the Tarot connection? The private chat where Bill met Darby, had an infinity symbol (lemniscate) which is a major part of the Magician card. Rohan is laid out in the pose of the Hanged-Man(???) I think your AI theory is brilliant! 3 theories as to Ray's motive. Language Algorithm glitch: Ray is very literal. Bill's tag was K!llB!ll and Rohan told Darby that, "he was killing himself with drink." (Though, I think Ray disrupted Ro's pacemaker; Hardfront may be a pacemaker monitoring service.) Security Algorithm glitch: Both Bill and Ro betray Ray, Bill doesn't wear his ring, Ro uses the anti-face-recog mask. My theory: Remember how the guests play a game as to who was invited by whom (Andy or Lee?) It seems even A & L would assume that guests that didn't invite wereinvited by the other. What if Ray invited Darby, then killed Bill to give Darby a mystery to solve. An AI Moriarty vs a Gen Z Sherlock Holmes.( Ray had to rush Ro's murder to prevent Darby from being sent away?) Darby hunts serial killers, so more murders to come. Great vid!

I am so glad that I found your channel, and that someone is doing a recap of this amazing show! One thing I noticed when you mentioned Bill’s phone screen is that it looks more like an ant than a spider to me. I think it had fewer legs and a longer body than a spider. I’m not sure what that means, but it is interesting given that Oliver’s swarm robotics tech behaves kind of like a colony of ants (idk if you can use swarm to describe a group of ants but they look like ants to me). Also may be connected to Oliver’s tweet shading Bill. That tweet felt personal, but maybe it’s because Bill expressed his criticism of big tech through his art. Anyway, really excited to see where the show is headed. I’ll be coming straight to your channel after each episode lol.

I haven’t seen the episode yet, but I was reading a book about how the detective could tell that a right handed person could’ve killed the victim as the wound was found on the left side of the victim and since Bill was injected in the *RIGHT* arm, maybe the killer’s left handed, so: Find the left handed person, then we’ll find the murderer (or one of them if there’s multiple!)

Okay, I’m a little late to watching episode 3 because of a busy week, but here’s my current theory. It’s not clean cut and I haven’t had time to iron out the details, but it’s a rough idea: Bill was killed by Zoomer, but Zoomer didn’t mean to. In past episodes, we saw that the door swung open to Bill’s room, but we never saw anyone enter. It’s been speculated this was Zoomer and I agree. Zoomer was wearing his augmented reality helmet and still playing “doctor” with Bill and accidentally (or on purpose) injected him with a deadly substance. Bill let himself be injected because he thought it was just a kid playing pretend. After he realized he’d been poisoned, he started thrashing about the room. The three tea cups were for him, Zoomer, and Lee. I think Bill found out Lee was a less than legitimate hacker and was going to expose her. Lee found out Zoomer killed Bill, so she went to make sure there was no evidence. I do think the overall message of the show is that technology isn’t bad or evil in and of itself, but it can be used for such things. Tech is a useful thing but we shouldn’t over utilize it.

My main takeaways from the episode was the fall sense of comfort provided to Darby from both Lee and Ray. Lee, to me, started it off by displaying herself as a nurturing, yet protective mother (the show she made of sleeping with her son in Darby's room says alibi to me). It correlates well with Darby's past case and her concern for the welfare of both the survivor and her kids. Quick side note, did you catch how they focused on Bill's hands, how the survivor looked at Bill, and how Darby peeped it? Anyway, Ray saved her life, and with her love of technology, it's easy to see how she could miss being manipulated by it. Something else I noted is how the victims are being murder through poison, which has been noted to be because of money or revenge. With such life altering tech, I believe it may primarily be about money. Oh, and I think Zoomer is AI; maybe through some ironic twist, Lee created Zomer in Bill's likeness.

Wow, for some reason the fake voice app didn't even spring to my mind when watching that episode. I think I just remember the atmosphere of this show more than I remember actual details. I wonder if that'd be better or worse if I was binging the series rather than watching it weekly. Maybe I just need to rewatch these videos before I catch a new episode. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I'll pop it in here: there is something about the book passage read in the premiere/the flashback we get while she's reading that makes me think we've been misled about how the search for the killer ended. Initially, I thought it was that she's changed it to cover up that Bill is the real killer and I'm not entirely ruling out he is, but I no longer think that's something Darby knows. My next guess is that they didn't actually confront/run into anyone in that basement, that it was a fabrication of Darby's to better sell her story (something about the part where they recite victims' names seemed too "on the nose", though I suppose it does fit with some of the writing from The OA) - the other possibility is that they ended up killing the killer in that moment (or at least the person they confronted, suspecting them of being the killer), and that she's covered up that part. It's more or less a stray thought, but wanted to mention it - this does kind of fit with what's highlighted in the Bill discussion in this vid, he just seems creepy and overly suspect (I buy Darby loving him, at least some form of intense attachment, though I'm not sure if it's just the acting/writing/direction or what we're meant to think, but I don't buy him being in love). Okay, time for a wacky, way-out-there theory that I am in no way confident about. There's speculation aboout Zoomer being a robot, but what if...everyone is? Or at least everyone except Andy. Definitely Darby, though - that could fit with the "testing/auditioning Darby" theory. As I said, I'm not confident, but it's a weird mood-oriented mystery from the people behind The OA, it wouldn't be the weirdest thing they've done. Anyway, back to more serious fare: I do believe Lee when she says that Andy invited Bill. Sadly, while my past comment suggested that could indicate who might be responsible for Bill's death, I'm not confident in either option quite yet (Andy could've invited Bill for legitimate reasons or just because he knows/suspects an affair and wanted to confront Lee but that doesn't mean he killed Bill and it doesn't mean Lee killed him to hide anything) - I'm still waffling and I'm not sure I'll get through that fog until another person dies. Definitely convinced to watch the rest of the series at this point, though if it sags in the next episode or two, I might binge the last episodes once the finale's out.

@DoublePMedia Not sure about the call she made to tell him about Ronson. But he did discourage her from investigating, calling it unprofessional. Also, looking at some of the trailers shows some interesting things. Ronson holding a power drill to Sian's head. And also smashing Sian's face with a rock. (She's wearing a helmet so it probably doesn't seriously hurt her. It could be that the helmet is AI powered, won't come off, and suffocating her. Making her a future victim.) Lee walking menacingly toward Darby talking about "secrets" as Darby backs away in fear. And in the teaser called "Listen" a bloody hand clawing its way out of what looks like that basement clearly wearing a wedding ring. (Could be somewhere else, could be Lee even. Idk, my mind jumped to Darby's dad because of her absent mother. Or maybe it's a flashback to the murder of the skeleton in the basement. Or, yet again, it could just be Darby wearing a ring, trying to escape without stairs. Maybe Bill proposed to her earlier on their journey.)
