As you know I’m getting back in the golf after about 25 years. After listening to a lot of yours and other peoples videos, the game and equipment has gotten extremely technical. I think it would be a good idea to explain all the points and terminology that you will be discussing during a fitting and the questions you’ll ask in layman's terms. Lastly, it would be a good idea to let the person know who is getting the fitting, the information they need to bring and be able to explain. If you have any questions, let me know, we can discuss off-line. Thanks again for your videos.

Question: I have 2 different sets of irons. Titleist AP1 and 100s. Same shaft in both clubs and same lofts. The AP1 have 1/2 inch longer shaft as fitted by Titleist demo fitter. I feel that these clubs are a few yards longer than the 100s. Could I gain distance by adding 1/2 inch to the 100s? Thanks for your answer.
@randalllaframboise3606 жыл бұрын
I like your approach to length being the variable to isolate...we as humans to an extent can adjust to weight, lie, etc. But length has the most direct impact as to how we use the "tool", since it interacts with our height, joint length, proprioception and relative flexibility. Properly fit clubs mean you'll be inclined to using the tool properly; improperly fit, the tool is using you, so to speak.

Just a question on shortest club length, what factors might you take into account if you were to leave all the wedges the one length due to the awkwardness of stooping too much for a lob wedge. Is there much point in progressive shortening of wedges? ie pw to lw. Thank you for the videos, they are great confidence builders in tinkering with my own clubs.
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
GOOD question, In the day I made all the wedges to the same length with the idea that the wedges job was to get under the ball and a heavier club can make that happen. Well that is true BUT not all golfers are the same. Now I take into consideration the golfers abilities, medical issues and if they are comfortable with idea of same length wedges. In most cases now the PW and GW are same length where the SW and LW are 1/4 shorter each

I am 5ft 10 and my legs are a bit shorter than average and using standard length clubs of which i am not very consistant. I see some players grip down which I have tried but tend to drift back up . Is it worth it to take an 1" to11/2 off .
@bobpegram80422 жыл бұрын
Body proportions (height of waist) also affects club length for people the same total height. A high waist raises the distance the hands are from the ground. It changes the waist bend point. Longer clubs are needed. A low waist means shorter clubs are needed. Extreme differences on people the same height are unusual, but they do exist. My waist is 45 inches from the ground even though I am only 6 feet tall.

Hi I'm a 1inch short club, but need 2deg up,have cast heads, pro shop says can't bend them, I'm thinking is this,they won't bend, or we don't won't to bend them ! Taylormade RBZ Please
@McGolf3 жыл бұрын
rbz can be bent and for cast clubs the max average is 2 degrees. They might be worried because of the age..When I bend a club the owner is fully aware of the I broke it you bought it policy because of potential deformation we cant see on the outside.

I'm currently using STEEL shafted irons (r7 TP 4i - PW stiff 130gm TT Gold Steel). I've noticed they're getting heavier (or maybe I'm getting older, slower). I'd like to continue using the same clubheads and install new GRAPHITE shafts (UST Mamiya Recoil shafts 105 grams, maybe lighter). Would I cut them to the same length as steel shafts? How would this affect the swing weight? What other factors should I take into account when swapping shafts? I could use your advice. Btw, your last advice was right on the money. The weird Driver impact sound was due to a small plastic piece that needed to be plugged deep in the hosel.
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
going lighter will mean the SW is going to be lower and that may help, Yes cut them to the same length as the steel that is if you are hitting them solid. keep in mind the flex. graphite shafts get plenty stiff when they get above 100g in wieght
@retired81233 жыл бұрын
The longer the shaft the more upright the club if using the same head. How do you account for that? Vise versa if you cut off length the club gets flatter...an adapter can solve that problem

You need to do like Dave Ramsey does with Real estate people and endorse local area fitters all over the country. I would love to be fitted like you talk about but not sure I have time to get to you. Where are you? How long does a fitting take? Estimate of what it cost if you have some clubs you like.

What is your opinion of the true length/true lie method of building clubs? I've heard of it but don't know the specifics ??? Thanks, John
@McGolf4 жыл бұрын
true length is a method based on your height stance. Simply put it measures the length needed at the 5 ironish, and then the PWish then draws a line in length from one club to the last and the remaining club length fall on the same line. Now this is a simple description but you get the idea.

Have a question....I swing my driver about 107mph but I like a 44 inch driver but a few fitters say I should go with a 45. I used a M3 9 degree with a Tour AD BB 6S shaft, now I hit the ball high so a BB brings it down but here's my question if I re-add the inch will it full effect the shaft, it was originally a 45 but had it cut cause I liked the set up but now I'm hitting it more left and I know I can open the face but that de-lofts it. What should I do, should I add the inch back on?
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
the easiest way is to extend the club using a graphite extender. see kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJionaV8mrOMhdE

Just subscribed to your channel. I have a question. The std off the rack shaft length is 45". Say if i want to have my driver length cut to fit 43", meaning that i have to cut 4" off the shaft tip taken into account the adapter. Now isn't that too long to cut. Will it affect the shaft flex.
@McGolf5 жыл бұрын
RH truly that is too much. If you want a 43” driver you need only cut 3” off the butt. Flex not really impacted however the club will be light in swing weight
@td11386 жыл бұрын
Do you wrist-to-floor measurements as a starting point for length fitting or just playing position? By the way, I’m 6’1” and find a 44.5” driver plenty long.

If you do not have the variety of different shaft lengths you have on hand, what could be a close secondary way to key in on figuring out proper length for an individual? Thanks!!!
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
Mizuno had a lang club that you would choke down on and test to the same way. If you believe the club is too long try choking down and giving it a try for a few holes. going to a longer club is problematic. You could have a club extended then choke down as needed

A little off topic. What are your thoughts on hanging balance and how it affects ball strike in the face. I guess that club length will affect the balance of the shaft in relation to the club face. Thanks
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
I am assuming you mean swing weight. To me it is another parameter for the club, I look to get certain ranges for certain swing types however I am not hung up on being precise with it. total weight is more important
@sharkhark4 жыл бұрын
Question? Yes you could watch me for a fit to see dynamic swing but let's assume this. I'm 6'1" & 37 inches wrist to floor. I've typically been fit 1/2 inch longer in past. But what's std now? I am interested in the Callaway epic forged irons but noticed that their "std" length is at least half inch longer or more than most companies. So do I get their "std" since it's already my length extra or even more? Or do you still go plus half inch because that's what they've said in past? (Again let's pretend no dynamic fitting we know)

Do you typically bring the swingweight back up to the stock weight when you fit someone for say half inch shorter or a person who needs half inch shorter clubs should also play the lighter swingweight that results from cutting? Thanks

typically I dont mess with Swing weight unless the golfer displays a real sensitivity to the parameter. most golfers would not notice the changes but,,, there are some that do, and in that case yes

I got a fitting for the srixon 785's I ended up with kbs c taper lite 110g a 1/4" shorter. I cant hit the bloody things catching it low on the face or off the toe on the long irons. There's no way to know from hitting a 7 iron what the longer clubs will be like. Why don't they use 5 irons as demo heads? If you can hit the 5 you sure to be able to hit the shorter clubs.
@McGolf5 жыл бұрын
We used to fit at the 5 iron length for that very reason. We switched to 6 irons as they are easier to hit and close enough to the 5. From another point of view low and toe it also an indication of over the top move. This can happen in the taller clubs as we think we must swing harder to get the distance from the club. just a thought.
@IntrepidGolfers5 жыл бұрын
@@McGolf That makes a lot of sense as I went from KBS FLT 120g shafts to KBS C taper lite 110g and they feel like a board.

Would have been useful for you to actually be showing a fitting session where you are assessing the length. For instance, what playing position do you want to see someone in to take that measurement. All I got from this, hit em all and whichever is most consistent wins

everybody is different, there is a standard from a teaching perspective that a fitter would like to see however medical issues, age, talent all play into the "best average" position a golfer can obtain. AND trying to get someone on camera is also a challenge,

@rickoh75786 жыл бұрын
Jim, what about single length clubs ( irons ), it seems as though the lie angle of each iron would be the only variable since the swing weight for each iron should be the same. With single length irons, you should have the best consistency possible. So, my question is, when you fit Matt, did single length clubs enter into the discussion, if it didn’t, why not? Jim, what you’re doing on youtube is unique, it’s only a matter of time and as word spreads, you’ll be buried in subscribers.
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
This was asked on another video and Matt actually answered, we did discuss single length but golfers are very traditional and if the golfer is not ready to accept that, then it will not work. Now for those that can accept the concept and a few have, it does work pretty good check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYWkcnqIpdOajqM
