Hi As usual a great video. I am 66 years old and been playing single figure handicap golf for50 years. It would be great if all so called club fitters were so open and explicit with their information. It may be different in the States but in the UK you are sometimes given the feeling of only being cash flow fodder, mainly from the so called BIG NAMES of the industry. I totally agree with you, your fitter should be your friend on your journey to better golf. Keep the good HONEST INFORMATION COMING.

Just had my first iron fitting today at Golftec in Madison WI and just like you said we talked about my game then I got to warm up then hit about 10 shots with my club to get a base line. Then after my swing speed and club head speed where established the fitter recommend 5 different shafts to try, after trying these shafts I narrowed it down to 2 then we narrowed it down to group tightness and feel . It was quite amazing to me to see the difference between all the shafts I tried. But to add a note the fitter checked my culbs for loft and lie and they where out of spec to weak loft lie was off 1.5 degrees on all irons I bought these used. The irons will be shipped back to Manufacture (Mizuno) to be brought back to spec and reshafted.

This was excellent. I used to work at PGA Tour Superstore and do custom fittings. Often people would come in and ask for me since I had helped them with their swings and/or gotten them in a set of clubs that worked better. When doing a fitting, I would make sure the golfer understood what I was doing and why. Occasionally I would get a golfer, go through the process, and make a recommendation for club specs. The golfer would then then go to the golf teacher he was getting lessons from and that person would contradict everything I had explained. For example, one very tall guy had a relatively flat swing plane that he was comfortable with. That would make him swing out towards the ball, then have to pull the club back in towards the ball to make contact. He hit across the ball in the extreme - glancing contact with a slice swing path. His clubs were too short for his combination of swing plane and height. I put together test clubs with a longer graphite shafts that kept the swingweight down to a reasonable level. He insisted he didn't use or want graphite shafts - apparently an ego thing. I explained that steel would be too heavy, but he insisted so I used an overlength lightweight steel shaft. Even with the somewhat heavier weight he hit the ball way more consistently than he did with his own irons. I also had him hit some clubs that were not correct to explain what was happening with his swing - so he could see the difference. He was convinced the clubs I recommended were a much better fit than his existing clubs so he ordered a set of irons with the specs that he did the best with - the overlength ones. He picked them up and took them to his next lesson, where his teacher told him they were all wrong. He returned the clubs for credit and ordered a different set which he hit worse because his teacher recommended specs (after the fact!) without even knowing how to do a fitting and without knowing my rationale for the clubs I fit him with! That was the most extreme example of other people interferring with a fitting.

Oh wow! You go really in depth with your fittings. I go to my local golf shop/range, they don't go that deep as you do. I wish they would. Love watching all your videos. Alw asyz learning something.

How true to the Ping Color Chart do fittings usually result in? Just as a reference tool to those golfers that don't get fitted? Great Info Vid!!

I know this video is 2 old years, just watched it again. What is the charge for a fitting and how far out are you booked?

Really like your videos and would love to go visit at some point. Quick question: if I hit my 3 and 5 woods (both with the same shaft) very well. Should I consider the same shaft for my driver even if it is a different brand? I only get maybe 20 additional yards with my driver (190-220) and don’t think is what I should be getting (I get around 170-190 yards with my fairway woods). Appreciate any thoughts. Tks.

In a fitting is it all recommended from The same manufacturer? Or can you have a ping driver, callaway irons, Taylormade putter, as an example?
@McGolf5 жыл бұрын
John McDonogh a fitter will have a favorite company to work with however the fitting is about specifications first then company second. For example we don’t deal in taylormade. If you like the company we will pull up the site and based on the needed specs advice a model that comes close

Can an off the rack set of clubs be fitted after being purchased wilson D-7 irons 5 - GW

Great job on the channel and everything you do. I think the one thing that’s holding me back from getting a proper fitting is I don’t want to feel like I have to buy the clubs recommended based on the fit right then and there. And being a very nice people pleasing type personality, I don’t think I would have the ability to walk out without making the purchase through the fitter. I often like to buy things second handed or let’s say a discontinued model to keep costs down. Is this something that would really tick the fitter off? I would feel too bad to take up there time, gain the knowledge necessary, and then leave just to buy said clubs elsewhere. Can you tell me how this would make you feel Jim? Again I love the content, and just became a new subscriber as of today.
@McGolf5 жыл бұрын
Don't feel bad, I look at this as you paid for my service for the fitting. After that, its your choice what you do with the information I just provided. Now, I am also in the business to sell clubs too and would love to sell a set but completely understand if that doesn't happen. Typically, what happens is a golfer that does this buys from say,,, EBAY or some other outlet and then brings them back for tweaking, regripping loft ad lies etc. So its a win win, you get the clubs and the deal and I (or your fitter) get the other work. Bottom line you say in golf longer. That's our job. another option might be to purchase a single club (a driver or putter) and buy the rest somewhere else.

Love it ! What I really would like to see is a fitting on existing clubs, I mean after purchase. I have purchased, years ago, clubs out of the rack, Titeleist AP2 from 3 to PW. Until recently I didn’t know what swingweigt meant. But when I’ve tried Jumbomax grips (125g) on my 7 iron, the swingweight drops from D1 to C1. At that moment I’ve realised how swingweight can affect your game. So I go back to standard grips (50g). From that moment I’ve made all my clubs checked for the swingweight. It turned out that my irons are D1, driver D4, wedges D6 to D8... My retailer doesn’t want to adapt it to my swing type saying that I will not feel the difference. He’s probably upset because I don’t want to buy new clubs. I’m 5’10”, 200lbs, pretty muscular with an history of boxing and swimming. Even though I know my swing is not perfect, I’ve a pretty high swing speed. So now I’m confused. Do these clubs really suits me and my swing? What would you do for a customer like me ? It’s a pity we don’t have such great clubfitters as you in Belgium...
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
I do get that a lot. Its typically we have to make changes from simple length and lie adjustments to break the news the clubs dont fit at all. we do this all the time that why we spec. Sometime golfer looking for new clubs walk out with shaft changes instead
@bobbymarson66855 жыл бұрын
Are you still using wrist to floor and height measurements as a starting point when it comes to the length a iron should be when doing a fitting? I realize there is more to the process ie, hitting off a lie board to get the right lie angle. Asking for those of us that do not have access to a launch monitor. Is the above process old school ?
@McGolf5 жыл бұрын
Bobby Marson I have never used wrist to floor in my fitting however it can be a start for some

@akumaununen66595 жыл бұрын
Buy a used set and go get lessons right away. You should get fitted when you have some consistency in your swing
@McGolf5 жыл бұрын
For a pure beginner, I would suggest a lesson, and either a box set or check out second swing golf.

Have you ever had to just adjust someone’s specs of their current clubs or do most people have to buy a new set
@McGolf3 жыл бұрын
We spec the current and compare results, sometimes its a simple length loft lie adjustment and sometimes its a new set.
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
The fact you are probably more athletic than the average golfer may mean you have a greater feel. The jumbo max grips are very good grips but at 5’10” they mostly were to big to start. Your height weight is in the range where most OEMs design parameters like length and lie. Grip size, head design are more selective to your skill set and personal tastes. I know of a fitter in Germany if you are interested he can help you.
