In this video I show how I fit, for the first time, latches with a 30mm back set and handles with narrow back plate in doors with only 60mm stiles.

Good job Del nice to see you back. That is an unusual narrow stile internal room door I too have never done one of them. Narrow stile doors on the other hand I have done a lot. You must have as well surely. There was a trend probably in the eighties for squeezing French doors into an old window space and giving new access to the garden and more light. These often had stupidly narrow stiles and also often rebates. My least favourite door lock job. If the lock manufacturers had to fit them on site they would change the design. Full big mortice locks to install in them was common and they were readily available as narrow stile lock sets. No door stops to contend with though. Love those handles you put on that door. Never seen anything like that fitting stile in Oz. Most of our system locks screw together through the door.

Nice job as usual. I've seen similar doors like that but glazed as a room divider? Though you didn't spec them they do seem a bit thin for room doors, I can see them being changed once the occupants realise how much noise they allow in. I agree, I hate roller catches too, like a caravan cupboard!!, and with thin doors, not great in a fire. Something I get called to do is repair narrow linings around the striking plate where a huge keep back box has been fitted, usualy to a bathroom door with latch. The thin remaining meat on the leading edge of the lining breaks away. Probably not great original installation as well, so glad yours was smaller. Keep up the good work, always nice to see what you're up to.
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John🖐I know exactly what you're talking about with keeps in narrow linings👊Seen it myself, and as you say, huge amount of material taken out for the keep leaves the lining VERY weak😩(probably not great to repair either 😪)Thanks for your great comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del

Blimey, top class that, I would put a clamp on the door when it came to the 22mm Auger bit, in fact I would use a flat bit as I've found Auger bits tend to want to open things up and split doors, interested on your thoughts on that, top job 👌
@thetallcarpenter

@traveller017

For shrinkage and it looks better. Also, traditionally when planing a door to fit a frame you fix the door stop lath to the head of the frame so when you stand the door in the frame to check for fit and mark the hinges it won’t fall through.
