Good job. I put a 24lb and FPV battery on our tandem and it has heaps of thrust. I went smaller because the SA website said Canoes or kayaks fitted with an electric motor less than 150 newtons (or 34 pounds of thrust) are exempt from the requirement for the operator to have a Boat Licence or registration.

Kevin yrs you r right re the power. I will hopefully not be checked out. If you see a guy on the news in a kayak with a water skier on the back.... I might be in trouble.

Hi Alby just a question , when launching and retrieving the kayak how to you put the motot up and down so it not getting stuck in the sand or mud ? i had to make prvision to lift the the motor up to lanuch and retrive, in my yak mine is in fornt of me where the peddle system goes ,have you found a way to do this im not seeing or you dont need to in your set up, just courious ,as your very clever person i see , so did i miss somthing ? and with the FPV box with only the power cable going into the controle box did the troll motor go in reverse ? i was looking to get one the FPV as well for my set up,and woundered if with only power cable going in will the reverse to activated thanks:)

I tend to use boat ramps if using the motor but come summertime I may use it iff the beaches. In short I launch at a ramp and tie the yak to the pontoon to mount the motor BUT I can launch with motor tilted up. My yak is stable enough to reach back and drop it down. The control box does allow you to switch from forward to reverse via a neutral. It us excellent and the wiring is very simple. Hope this helps.

Just for information I was able to lift the motor whilst on the water the other day. My yak is stable and I was actually able to lift and remove and reinstate the motor on the water. Pretty happy with that even though it was a bit rough. Hope this helps.

Great job Alby, Just wondering why didn't you buy the adapter that lets you mount the motor in the pedal drive slot? Would be much cleaner option I would have thought. I know what you mean about the wind some days in the Port River and at time that tide rips thought there. Makes your legs burn when peddling against it. 🙃 Really feel it the next day when you get out of bed 🤣

Initially kayaks 2 fish didn't do a drop in pod fir the motor that I liked as theirs is BIG. I ended up with the smaller drop in one suited to hobies. I am happier with that as it is not so bulky.

@JEAdventures I bought a fpv mount, and then fitted two small alloy pieces onto the base of the K2F drive mount to lock the base of the motor in.

@@albyskayakstuffaustralia3215 I’ve seen them for sale on K2F website but I thought it said it didn’t fit the K2F kayaks. It would make an interesting KZbin video to show what you did.
